Fish season?

I have noticed that many fish are out of stock from the sponsor venders. Is this a time of the year when they don't get many shipments of fish? Or did they just sell so many for christmas that they run low? Our winter here in the northern hemisphere is summer in the southern where most of our fish come from right? I'm sure someone in the business wil chime in.

It was explained to me by a few fish stores that during the holidays cargo space on airplanes is very limited and pet transport is very low on the priority list.

This and depending on what you want they can absolutely have a season. Baby bandits and regal angels pop up in late spring early summer. Fish from Australia show up more in the winter ect...

Fish season?

I know sometimes when I used to work in fish and reptiles...I received entire boxes of frozen fish and inverts and other boxes from the same shipment were perfect and it was only because of their position on skids when they were taken off the plane in transit to the hangars awaiting custom clearance.
So bottom corner boxes were most likely the ones to freeze or cook. Boiling summers also had their share of DOAS. So we would try and limit orders in January-February and mid - July and August and also pass on fragile or expensive specimens.

Reasons for low inventory in your neck of the woods might be entirely different though.

And Yes some fish / inverts are seasonal.

Some are seasonal, shipping around the holidays can be affected by high volume, inclement weather affect wholesaler and LFS willingness to accept risk, and CITES permits expire around the end of the year too.
