there's something wrong with my wife..... she told me that i could have a bigger reef tank... so i have no idea if she's ill or it's a trap... but i'm going for it anyway.

my new tank is ready to go just needs to be shipped in it's 72x30x30. what kind of tangs are suitable for this size reef. i'm pretty sure a naso still doesn't work hahah. what about an emperor angel?! i'm looking forward to some suggestions!

Um I'd be swiping that card until her sickness goes away lol ... naw man that's amazing plz post away pics when it arrives

She spending any late nights at the "office"?... :p

Where's the tank from?
Congrats..
My new tank just arrived today (80G rimless) and the wife just turns the other way when the wallet has been coming out.. So I know how weird that can feel...
But she got a new dining room set so its "only fair" as I put it ;)

For that size tank I would just stick with some of the Bristletooth tangs. (Kole, Tomini etc) I'd hold off on the Emperor Angel. Really the options are endless though, but just be advised that once some of these fish get bigger that tank is going to get a lot smaller.

Bristle tooth tangs? I know my tank can fit a lot larger species than that.

The tank is from miracles, and i pay for most of the cost for the trips she wants to take and the things she wants to do so shes never really stood in the way. She always really fair about things. Right on I suppose haha

Such as?

It sounds like you may have made your mind up already..

Well no... Are you feeling ok?

I know I can at least fit most Zebrasomas and acanthurus families.... I just don't know if I'm pushing the envelope with something as big as a blonde naso or a hippo tang

You could do a chevron tang or a blue tang (maybe). It is to small for an emperor angel though.

Honestly... Tangs don't just become 14 inches long over night... Takes years... Most people have tank crashes and leave the hobby in that time. LOL

That being said. If you want a big tank to seem BIGGER always go w/ smaller fish. Big fish make tanks look small! IMO

Chevron tangs and Sailfin tangs maybe? Is your tank big enough for powder blues/browns?

I personally don't think I'd go for an emperor angelfish...why not a Regal or Annularis instead? (Just due to being a smaller size)

OK here is a perfect plan. Worked for me. Started with a single 60 gallon 10 years ago. Stocked a quarter sized Hippo, a 1 inch maroon and same size PJ Cardinal, watchman goby and small six line. Also had a 30 gal. Running. Few years go by, meet girl, girl moves in and she falls in love with tanks and dog. Fish are getting bigger corals growing, start planning a bigger home for growing family... time for a 90 gallon. I am planning for months on how to set up the 90 , transfer over 30 to the 60 and 60 to the 90 and convince girl that this needs to be done. The girl, now my fiance sees the notebook I'm doodling generic fish in, one being a seahorse, and says, I think a sea horse tank would be fun. I see the opening for a tank and next day grab a seahorse tank and set it up. Now I have that set up, no seahorse stock though. She can't back out now. It's been 4 years now since the 60 is running. I explain " Hun the fish are just getting to big, "we" need to get a bigger tank for them. Not sure how I pulled out off but a 90 is now housing a 5 inch Hippo and Maroon Clown and the other fish from the 60 And I add a quarter sized Desjardini Sailfin to the 60. 2 years later gotta put the Desjardini in the 90 and the now wife is pregnant. Fish are all getting bigger and so is the wife. Time to go bigger again. Woo-hoo. Wife beats me to it though, need bigger place. Buy a house, convince wife, before we move it would be probably easier to set up a new tank in the new house to make the whole move easier. What, she agreed and never asked how big. 220 it is. 10 years from start... 7 in Hippo, 6 in. Desjardini and 5 inch Maroon. A pair of large Blue Chin triggers, all the other tanks, big dog and one year old little girl and. Naso waiting to be picked up. The point.... you should get a Desjardini Sailfin a Hippo and a Naso, you've got plenty o time before they out grow that tank. And by then, you and me we'll have 300's. That was way long to get to that point.

Wow and you wrote that out on a tablet?

Good realistic POV write-up Bma1972.
Zack, you could put anything you want in a 280g--w/ common sense of course.
Yes tangs grow large, but if you have 4-5 that get too big after many years just take one of the aggressors out--it usually solves the problem.
A group of anthias would be ideal, i've had ignitus, peaceful, but iv'e heard lyretails can be overly aggressive to each other--i dont have personal experience.
I'm sure you could have a large angel too--if you keep it well fed and add small or last.
My purple tang is so domineering, i think i'd have to put it in another tank if i want to add anything i want.
