fish skin disease in fishless tank

I was wondering how long a fish skin disease will live in a 125g tank with no fish. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m sure it depends on the type, but I am unsure what this was.

It ate away at he flesh, kind of like a skinned knee type thing.
I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t want to medicate the tank and I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t want to remove 150lbs of rock.

No corals either at this point, just inverts and cleaner shrimp who are doing fine.

I know, I know QTââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦..

The "fish skin disease" is not a clear diagnosis.

There are many organisms and parasites that would fit that description, as you indicated you were aware.

For instance, if the fish died because of a septicemia kind of infection, it doesn't matter how long the tank sits -- the fish got ill because of water quality and/or serious stress issues. If the fish died because of an obligate parasite, then the parasite will die without a host to infect and continue its cycle.

If the disease was a mycobacterium, that might be a different matter. The symptom you mentioned fits too many possibles to provide a specific answer (as you suspected).

So, to accurately answer your question. . .It depends upon what the condition was.
