Fish Stores

Heather had told me it would be probably several months. She has dry goods stockpiled at her house that need to be sold.

I picked up a nice rock covered with green and red Zoa's from seahorse yesterday. IT seems they are going to slowly close over the next few months - 20% off of all livestock currently and other discounts.

Looks like Slippery Rock Corals has a new owner and just opened today. I got an email from them.

Heather told me Sept 26th or 28th is her last day. Just for your info.

hmmm- well that is faster than what she told me. -I am sure staff, etc are all bailing out. I will have to get in there I want to get some stuff in hopes of putting up my 180 in the future.

Good news about Slippery Rock Corals - I was up that way golfing last week. I hope the new owner keeps things reasonable and fair.

How did the store look? Was there a good selection of inventory? When I was up there on the last day of business Rob said he sold everything left to a guy he was helping set-up a new store in a different location.

A thought. With us being at Dawn's for the get together, it may be nice to all go down and say goodbye to Heather in a group.

Thoughts?

Dawn, could you find out if she'll be there on the sly?

Ok I was at the Seahorse tonight and asked Missy if Heather would be around when we wanted to come. She said yes. Heather was there so I couldn't ask anymore specifics but I think we are pretty safe assuming she will be there, especially being a Saturday.

just stopped in there- not much left. Picked up a purple firefish for $10 and some frozen food for 40% off.

Wanted to get this post rolling again. The wife and I found our self's near Cleveland again, so on the way home I wanted to stop by a LFS. I saw that Triton Marine was on the way home I made that my target. It was only about 10 minutes off the Ohio turnpike, so it wasn't that bad of a detour.

The good the store was very clean and the tanks and fish looked fantastic. There was a lot of different corals and fish. Also a lot of there tanks where separated from one another, lots of extra work for the LFS but healthier animals.

Little bit of bad. From what I read this is a family owned fish store (not that it maters) I introduced myself explaining I was from Pittsburgh and asked the guy there if this is his shop and he said yes I told him how impressive it was and tried to strike up a conversation, but he just stood there and gave me a nod. I walked around 3 times I had all intentions of buying something, but the owner looked at me like I was bothering him, so I left. I don't want to pass judgment it was 6PM an hour before the store closed on a Friday, but even my wife said he was a stand offish and she never says anything like that.

I still recommend checking out the shop and maybe the guy was just having a bad day.

That is too bad- it is amazing to me, as a small business owner myself, that any store in retail/sales would not try to put their very best foot forward at all times. But, often now a days stores just don't seem to care. They are in the business of "Service" - yet seem to offer very little of it. Maybe he was having a bad day or was suffering from a physical issue. Also, not that it is an excuse, but maybe he had been there since 8 AM and for some reason had no help.
