Fish that are blue?

Hi all,

I know the title seems like a piece of cake, but under certain parameters I've come up pretty empty handed. I'm looking for a vivid blue fish for my 40g reef tank. Here are a few that I've ruled out for different reasons, blue reef chromis, damsels of any sort, tangs (powder & regal). Although I was tempted to get one of the tiny regals at the LFS, but my better senses prevailed. So what would some of your suggestions be? I've thought about a few of the dwarf angels, but I'm pretty set on getting a flame angel sooner or later down the line so that rules them out too! I know they're a gamble on being reef safe or not, so in case any of you were wondering I'm definitely willing to take that gamble if that broadens the suggestions.

I wonder if it would be handy to have a data base that has fish separated by main color they display to make it easy for people like me going after a specific color... has anyone heard of anything like that?

Thanks for all of your suggestions!

I know you said rule out any damsels, but I will say that I have had a blue devil for years and years, and it is a great fish. Some aggression towards a new fish, but once that subsides, no problems.

ORA has that blue Randall's Assessor.
There are other fish that have blue eyes like threadfin cardinalfish or Zebra Dartfish. All I can think of right now.

Tamarin wrasse , blue gudgeon, blue spot jawfish, bicolor angel, neon gobie, a lot of larger angels juvenile phases have blue ( holocanthus and pomacanthus)

I have a coral beauty that is purpleish blue, i will send you it in the mail. She is reef safe been in my reef for months haha but realistically you should look into something like a chalk bass.

or what about a blue lined dotty back ive always wanted one.

Many of the chrysiptera damsels aren't overly aggressive and have stunningly bright blue coloration under the right conditions. Just make sure to research the species of interest.

I have 4 kupang damsels in a 190. No major aggression for instance, I also keep a mated pair of purple firefish. In a 40 it could be a little different with a smaller tank. .

I have a blue headed wrasse that is amazingly blue with a great personality. He may get to big for a 40 gallon though.

I love my shoal of blue/green chromis, one of the most underrated fish IMO, the shimmer you get under moonlighting is fantastic.

Plus they school with Anthias which makes for a great display...
