Fish & Treatments for Marine Ich

My main display tank just got an outbreak of marine ich...sooooo...I get to enjoy the thrills of treatment in a hospital tank. Yippeee :celeb3: (note the sarcasm!) Please don't beat me down on this. I QT'd my fish, but apparently not long or well enough. I didn't treat them with anything (except the angel got a freshwater dip).

I plan to set up a hospital tank...treat with copper and an antibacterial to fight secondary infections. But, I have a few questions.

First - I have a splendid leopard wrasse. Will a PVC pipe suffice for her instead of a sandbed to bury herself in at night?

Second - Do Watanabe Angels have a copper sensitivity?

Third - I know Chocolate Tangs have a copper sensitivity, so how should I treat it instead? Formalin?

Fourth - I assume chromis and anthias are ok with copper, right?

Fifth - Are tangs ok with freshwater dips?

Freshwater dip is useless,
Watanabe Angels don't like copper.

The best treatment i have found is to lower the salinity to 1.010 in a QT tank,

I believe Tangs being overly sensitive to copper is a myth. I've used properly dosed ionic, chelated and cupramine on them without loosing a single one....

As for your situation, due to the list including some sensitive species (angel & anthias), cupramine or hypo salinity would be a great treatment.

Your initial QT was not an active QT, meaning you just watched for signs of disease, next time give some consideration to a prophylactic treatment, it should save you a headache like this in the future....good luck

Thanks! I've read varying opinions/studies on the effects of freshwater dips/hyposalinity, so I'm not convinced either way. Hum...I don't have cupramine on hand (just CopperSafe, Formalin, and other treatment stuff for bacteria, etc.)

If I can find cupramine locally, do I need to worry about a secondary bacterial infection with it?

Any idea on the wrasse? Thanks again!
