Fishing BS in CT

tank o tang

Thread Lurker
Now not only do you need a freshwater fishing licence (which I understand since they stock fish) but now as of July 1st you also need one for saltwater fishing. They were out busting people on the sound today. Just a warning for all those throwing a line in CT water.

wow.. I am getting pretty tired of the government trying to tax every last little thing because they don't know how to stop spending in Hartford.

I saw this when I interned up there in college, most people don't pay attention to what is in bills, mostly because you have to be a nut to actually dig in there and find out.

Imagine all the money the people would save if all these congress people were paid the average salary of the people they represent.

hehe, they actually are if you could imagine that. They only make close to 30,000 in CT (I am referring to state reps and senators not national ones who make in the 100,000's). But it is considered a part-time job even though it shouldnt be so they are paid so little and typically have to have extra jobs. Thats why you see people who are basically already independently wealthy or are lawyers feed their ego's with this position.

It seems lately theres more and more that comes out that frustrates me so much with politics, both in this state and nationally.

With all due respect, you would think $10.00 was going to kill you. And that whole, get the govt out of my pocket/checkbook will never happen. Everyone wants to pay less taxes and less this or that but unfortunately costs keep going up. Need to find money somewhere. When the roads stop getting fixed, or the police are less, or fire stops showing up...etc, etc, there would be complaints then too.

Well I think our complaints are relevant to our time period. Right now the majority of the U.S. are basically in individual depressions. When gas prices are going up, people are being laid off, and job opportunities are going down, people seem to get more upset when a simple $10 fishing fee is created.

It's when you want to take your family and all of a sudden its a $40+ day out to fish. Glad the $10 isn't a problem for you but in these times when people are forfeiting vacations with in state day activities it can be much for some.

I am not belittling those who are having a tough time in the current economy. Quite the contrary, I am all for raising taxes to assist those truly in need. I am just saying it seems a bit questionable to complain about a $10 or $40.00 bill for fishing when you look at the hobby this site is for and the costs associated with it (Live stock, utilities, salt, conditioners, food, etc).

Now come on. We arent talking about roads going unfixed or policemen being unpaid. Don't be confusing pork and fluff with actual things a government should be doing. Connecticut is the 2nd highest taxed per capita state in the Union, it is a complete strawman argument to suggest that all that money is essential. There are so many garbage wasteful programs up there in Hartford that you could hack the budged 2/3rds and still have plenty of money left over to pay for those essential things you say.

This state even managed to sneak in a state income tax back in the early 90's that was supposed to cut the need for other fee and tax hikes and our budget has only grown exponentially since. It's kids in a candy store. Our legislators are judged on how much money they bring back to their districts, its in all their mailings. And when they need to continue to find new ways to get money back to their districts they come up with stupid fee hikes on select portions of the populace. That is what we have here, an out of control abusive government that is putting it's dirty paw on every last thing that used to be free.

It won't be long before interstate internet sales will be taxed as well, but I am sure there will be some excuse about the firemen not being paid if they don't find a way to tax it...

Sorry but this has gone way off course and beating the second life out of a dead horse won't have any positive outcome for anyone. I will try and refrain from any threads that might go political in the future.

I apologize to all if I offended you. I just think sometimes we have to see the other side of things and many people only view things from their perspective, right or wrong. As it seems my politics are different than most, I will follow tank of tang's lead and ignore all future potentially political topics.
