I've gotta thank Randy for taking me fishing today. He set me up before hand by saying he an Chris didn't have much luck the day before. So he started out throwing a 3-4" lure towards the middle of the river and assured me 90% of the bites were near the bank but the bigger ones were in the deeper water. I threw a tiny lure towards the bank and caught 2 tiny trout. I didn't have the famed black and gold count down rapala in my box so I put on a black and silver - floating rapala. And kept tossing to the bank. Luck has everything to do with catching really big fish, skill has everything to catching consistent numbers. I GOT REALLY LUCKY!
Rainbow Trout: 27.75" (measured it Randy). Haven't measured the girth yet. I don't have a scale but I'd say 8-10lbs.
Some of the conversation:
don: I got a big one Randy
randy: (fooling with his line) thinks "ok 14"-18" gotta get my bait back in the water
randy: (thinking my rod is very flexible) "yea, is it a big one?"
fish flashes it's colors
don: loosens drag!
randy: yea, you got a big one! ???
fish is boatside
don: whaoooo
randy: where's the net!
fish sees us and the boat and makes several runs
randy: damn, the net's too small (it's like 18" round)
I think third time was a charm
THANKS Randy! It will go down as my best/favorite freshwater catch! (oh yea, I caught the biggest fish Randy's boat has ever seen

)
