fishy's first nano build

When it comes to LED's, watts aren't the biggest factor. Is it full spectrum? What do you plan on putting in the tank?

I don't think it is full spectrum. i plan on keeping mainly zoas and some easy lps corals like hammers

Hmm.. You might be better off just using a Kessil 150 or 350. You could honestly get away with a Kessil 150 for cheap, used, but cheap (rougly $150-170 w/ gooseneck).

yeh I'm thinking of giving the led a miss and getting a par38 led with gooseneck.
the led i'm thinking of is a coral flare max 1. what do you think

I'm not sure on the live stock yet. Are there any fish that would thrive in this size tank? I'll definitely have a shrimp in there. And your right about pulling the tank apart being time consuming as it took me probably took me two or three hours, but I feel alot better for doing it as I know there is a decent amount of silicone in the joins and there not going to come apart. The paint should be dry now so I'll do a leak test later today and maybe play around with some aquascape ideas.

Here are some suggestions, not all are for 11 gal but you can look around.

Percula Clownfish is always a good choice

I didn't even then about a Par38 :debi:

You could totally get away with one of those!

OK update on the lighting. When I went to the shop too say I didn't want the light anymore, I spotted another led and it was a 15 watt aquatopic led. I looked it over, I was impressed with what I saw. It had 20 white LED's somewhere around 10k and 10 antic LED's. I have a aquatopic wave maker and the build and performance of it is amazing, so I trust the brand. So to cut to the chase the led was to good to pass up so I got it. When I got home I opened it up and was pleased with what I saw. The led is not flimsy and feels sturdy. I put it on the tank and switched it on, the light is very bright and from the look of it around 12 or 14k.
I'll take some pics of it and post them later today.

i got some sand and rock in the tank today. what do you think of the scape.

a side view of the light.

i want to get some water in the tank so i can see what it looks like.

Here's the light on the tank, the water is still murky from being recently added. The photos don't really do justice to the brightness of this thing and the color is great and I think that corals will really POP under this light, we'll just have to see.

On another subject when i went to the LFS I had a look at the fish and there was a pair of red stripe cleaner shrimp......but they were $160 each!!!! is this normal for them to be this expensive?. I'm not going to spend that amount of money on a shrimp...heck I wouldn't be comfortable about spending that amount of money on a fish let alone a shrimp. Would you guys spend that amount on a single shrimp?

Looking good!

Heck no! I'm no shrimp enthusiast, so I shouldn't judge. I did spend a little more than that yesterday on a pair of Picasso clowns, but I'm a clown nut :-D

bob i could probabley bring myself to spend 200 on a pair of clowns but 160 on a single shrimp is just nuts

Yea,,, I wouldn't spend $160 on a shrimp.. But then again, I wouldn't spend that on any fish/shrimp or even coral. Think my gf would kill me lol..

The key is to find a mated pair, and have her fall in love with them, and then have her pay for one, and you pay for one ;-)
