fishy's first nano build

I placed the frag just off the sand on some rock and within five minutes all polyps were fully open, it looks happy so far and it has great colors under the lighting and glows under the PC. I also added two snails as well.
The diatoms are starting to go away as well. I did my first water change today and the tank is looking great!

That's all good news! :bounce1:

The tank looks like it's pretty happy atm. All the diatoms are gone now:). One thing i found interesting was that the snails missed a patch of diatoms and in a few days the patch went pink like coraline algae. The covering of pink algae is very thin so i don't think that it's coraline algae, has anyone else observed this before? I put two shrimp that i have grown in the 67 and put them in the tank, it's been about a week now and one of the shrimp has molted already. The snails are also doing well. I think I might get a yellow clown goby for the tank as the only fish, what do you guy's think? Also do goby's jump? if so that might be a problem.
I'll try and post some new pics to show how good the tank is looking:)

From what I've read, yea they tend to jump. might want to put and eggcrate fitting on top of your tank.

Yeah. They are jumpers. They also feed on the sand, so you'll want to make sure you have a very active bed. I'm personally interested in a mandarin goby, but have held off until I have a very active copepod population so they don't starve :o

If you really want the mandarin, then you could consider Dr.G's Copepods. I have his live phytoplankton and it's good.

Lol.. Sorry for the HiJack Fishy!

Yeah - part of it is my education about all of the "micro culture" of reefs. It's a lot newer to me, and there are a lot of brands out there. My goal is to have a self-sustaining "micro culture" in my tank. I've added a refuge, but I still have a lot to learn about the small side of the food chain. LMK if you have suggested reading :reading: and I'll stop hijacking fishy's thread.

lol i'm sure fishy wouldn't mind the extra knowledge!

True, a self-sustaining pods population is nicer. But if you want that, you'll just have to let the tank mature a bit more. The reason I had to buy some was for the emerald crab babies. Either way I wouldn't have bought it because my LFS has it for double the price :thumbdown

OMG my thread got hijacked by people I thought were my friends:eek1: :lolspin:
That was so interesting reading on pods:beer:.
I might give the goby a miss for a while until the tank is more mature.

Sorry haha!

What are your other options rather than a goby? And can you catch anything over there? How are the restrictions ?

That's OK mate:) to be honest I'm not sure what I'll put in, any suggestions for a fish that doesn't jump? The rules are so strict that if you breath you'll get a fine:lol: not many fish small enough around here either.

Hmm,, there's always Yellowheaded Jawfish, Pygmy Wrasse, Royal Gramma, Chromis..

Dang that's pretty crazy. No tide pools in your area?

So a chromis will do alright in a 11? There very cheap so it might be the way to go.
Not many tide pools around but if you do find something small it will most likely not be reef safe and I don't want to get on the wrong side of the law either, so I'll just stick to buying my fish ;)

It's cutting it close. It grows up to 3.5inches.

This would be perfect though

And yea I get you. The law over here is very strict as well. And once you are put on that list then have no sympathy for you. So I always make sure to double and triple check everything I catch.

Thanks G, I do like the look of the cardinal:) I'll have a look at the lfs soon and see what I can find.

Nice, honestly fishy, put what you have available that's reasonable. Lol
If you don't want to get bashed from people then just don't post it on here lol. I don't really care what fish you put in YOUR tank. But some ppl will have a real fit on here.
