Flame and Bellus Angels, Together!

Waiting for a trio Bellus Angelfish from Diver's Den. I have a pair of amazing flame angels already established in the 300 Gallon reef tank. Also, I do have several tangs (6 Yellow, 3 yellow belly regal blue, one purple, and one Achilles). I know I am pushing it but, can these Angels learn to live together in "relative" peace, in this crowded, "relatively" peaceful, tank?

Any input?

I would appreciate any experiences with keeping both Angels together. I am concerned about them not getting along... I am thinking I should not have attempted this experiment, specially that these Angels aren't cheep......

Again, any input, past experiences, or advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think you will see any trouble from the flames. I would worry more about the tangs.

Are the tangs large, and how long have they been in the tank?

Can't really comment on how everyone will get along but with 11 tangs in the tank there is a chance at least one of them will be a butt head to the new additions. My guess would be on the purple or Achilles. Regardless, I would use an acclimation box for a few days when you introduce them to the tank. You can get one of those critter keeper tanks pretty cheap and the top is basically a grate that allow for water flow. I have used a few times over the years and works well. Good luck!

nereefpat, the tangs are 5-6 inches. They all started together about a year or so ago when they were about an inch or so. They just eat and grow :)
They do fight but so far it has been "playful" fighting. hopefully, they will find peace when the bellus trio arrive..

Reef908, you know, I never really noticed the number of Tangs in my tank. back when I got them they were so small and were insignificant in the big tank. gradually, and actually, "all of a sudden" that huge mass of water isn't that huge anymore...

I will definitely take your advice and use critter keeper containers however, I will have to search for a way to do this for three "kind of large" fishes. I do have some time for searching, since I still need to quarantine them for few weeks before I put them in the reef...

I've had 11 tangs and 12 angels together for yrs in a 450g DT out of 80 fish total ... No problem with my trio of flames and pair of Bellus, although male Bellus reverted to female when a Lamarck angel grew bigger and turned male

albano, COMFORTING to know that. And I thought I have a big tank.. huh! 450 G DT, and 700 G reef ?! I am so jealous :) :)

Fish are more forgiving in bigger systems with plenty of places to hide
I never had a real problem with a tang and angel maybe some flashing in the beginning but after a couple of days they just keep to themselves
I have never been able to keep more than one kind of angel in my tanks the new ones usually get bullied until they die of stress or get pulled out
Never had experience with bellus im thinking if they are bigger than the flames they should be fine

Roll of the dice.
I have 9 Tangs with an African Flameback, Flame, and pair of Coral Beauties that all get along.
Your mileage may vary. ;)

I have trio Flame and Watanabae pair no problem (plus two Regal angels). Only 4 tangs and a Foxface as grazers in my 325 DT/500 gal system.

I've had a flames with a lamarks, wantabei & black spots with no issues. The genicanthus angels and flames didn't show any aggression in my tank. I don't think there would be any real issues, but of course every fish is an individual. Like the others have said, the tangs might be a little bossy.

Just received the trio Bellus Angels, yesterday. They are now in the 55 G quarantine tank. They were stressed in late shipping flight. watching them closely. The male is not doing fine and not eating as of yet, but the two females are rapidly recovering (started to eat frozen mysis this morning) .... Typical.....

The male has what it looks like a wound on his body. I hope it may be scratch against something, and not a prelude to an infection. I wounder should I medicate the tank? and with what?

Thanks for all the help.

My purple tang had something like that (hard to tell without pics ;)) but I used a combo of kanaplex and prazi and he made it through alright. I dont know what it was but this combo worked for me. I did no do the meds at the same time though. Round of kanaplex, water change, round of prazi, water change, repeat. Once his bruise/sore healed fully I did formalin dip, ttm, then another dip. Have about 7 months now. It has put a ton of weight on, is about as thick as my pinky and grew almost an inch I'd think. Maybe someone else could chime in also with some thoughts. Good luck!

I lost him. Hopefully, it was an injury of some sort, and the tank has not been infected with something he carried. Wondering if I should have treated the tank sooner? Should I do that now, as a preemptive treatment?

:-( :-(
