Flame angel or coral beauty in reef tank

I had a couple of them a few years back. My experience was that they went for a couple of years and didn't bother the corals and then they started getting nippy.

I had both (not at the same time) both of them nipped at my acans but they stayed away from everything else.

I had a flame for years with no coral issues. But the coral beauty I have now will eat any zoas I put in the tank. Not palys, but every zoa!

I have a coral beauty and it has not nipped at any corals. I feed 2-3 times a day though so could be a factor. Feed little and often and you may be fine.

I have a coral beauty in my current tank (transferred from my previous tank) Had it for about 2 1/2 to 3 years now, I haven't observed it picking at any corals. I have previously had a flame angel (lost it in a move) which I never saw picking at any corals either.

Any fish has the chance to pick at coral, some are more prone to it then others.

I, too, have had both although not at the same time. The CB was in a mixed reef 120 and never bothered a thing. The FA was in a 60 mostly softie (lots of zoas and palys) and then transferred to a 120 SPS dominant reef and never bothered anything either. I would agree that keeping them well fed goes a long way towards avoiding issues. (I'll eat just about anything if I get hungry too!)

Your experiences are good news. I'm looking at getting either a CB or FA for my dream tank and I just don't want to risk them nipping at the coral. If they don't nip if well fed though, that's a different story.

Coral beauty doesn't touch anything in our tank. It's my fiancés favorite fish.

It's really useful to state what sort of reef the angel bothered or didn't bother. Species matters in terms of what gets nibbled. Eg, I've never seen anything liking to nosh on xenia or green star. A lot of critters like hammer coral and zoas.

For me there are hammers, elegances, frogspawn and alvepora plus button palys and some mushrooms with my coral beauty (plus other risk fish including blue koran and a foxface)
I overfeed somewhat plus have nori sheets in the tank most days to keep them well fed.

Mine only nips when it doesnt have enough food. Went right after my ACAN but leaves the GSP and Zoas and Nem alone.

It really is dependant on the fish you have.

None of my business, and probably doesn
t belong, but why is **Phill**, Dave or is Dave really Phill

Just curious
