flame angel trio or pair?

My super male flame angel is the boss of all the pygmy angels in the tank.
I had a pair for him before but the supermale killed the female by intimadating it and i dont want it to happen again
#1 should I sell my super male and get a another smaller male then reintroduce all of them at the same time
#2 should I remove the supermale then reintroduce the 2 small female and place the large male on timeout for a while.
#3 should I just keep the 2 smaller female and sell my large male.


I have a Brazilian Flameback ( fireball) trio i love the way they look and they are doing great without aggression.

Besides the rounded anal fins and less colorful is their more I should look our for.

I am just a noob, but everything I have read is that you shouldn't have more than on flame angel in a tank for that exact reason, aggression towards the same species... sound to me like you have a lot more experience than I. I have read that it can be done because people ate trying to breed them, but that is well beyond my expertise!

I had a pair of flames for over2 years and the female died for no reason, I removed the male picked up another female, let her get comfortable in the take for a couple weeks, then added the male in my under water cage for a couple weeks then put him in the tank with no problems. I have paired up many angels over the years, they are not too hard to do.

you have to take out your male, add the female (or 2) for a few weeks and then re-introduce the male. This is the only way he will not kill another flame angel regardless of size or sex. Big male flames are very aggressive once established.

I had the same issue with my male flame. Just like guppie, I secluded my male for a few weeks and then introduced him into my DT after my female was adjusted and eating well. Best of luck. I personally have never had any real issues with my male flame picking on other fish.
