Flame Anglefish

Sad to report he didn't make it but I want to thank everyone for their input. See everyone tonight if you are going to be there.

I totally agree Acer; however, I went to a local store because I had a caulerpa problem in my tank. I was looking for a specific fish, the store didn't have it, and told me that a kole tang would do a great job controlling it. Although I didn't research the fish, I purchased it only to find out that it cannot consume that type of algae because of the anatomy of it's mouth. Ethics are a part of business also. Local stores complain about people purchasing items online instead of supporting them yet they repay us by giving "bad" advise. I have seen ethical issues at every local pet store which is how I found this forum. I would like to thank everyone here for their contributions. We are on here because we want to advance this hobby not earn a living.

Bummer - I would bring the body back and complain- also stating the Butterfly is fine , but the Flame angel died!!! Therefore, not your tank parameters or you release procedures or the butterfly would have passed as well. They probably wont do anything for you - but you will get some satisfaction.

I would if I actually wanted to buy another fish. One side of him was normal color and the other side of him deteriorate around his gills and mid section. I left for three hours and he was alive when I left and wasn't when I came back but what concerns me is that he deteriorate so fast. I just want to make sure that my tank and other fish will be fine before I add anything to my tank after that. so I will be waiting a few weeks before adding anything.

Yinzer, is this what happened to yours? I would like to buy another one some day as I really want one but just want to make sure that this doesn't happen again. It just might be where they are buying them from. In that case I will just buy one from Elmers.

Kind of. I noticed alot of white spots on him the next day. There were a few spots (3 or 4) when I got him but I was told that those were just air bubbles. (my fault for believing him). Within a week, it infected my clowns, firefish, rabbitfish and HTusk. They all died. It was my only meltdown in almost a year. I'm not here to bash any LFS but for the price and quality...FOR ME...I will not buy fish there anymore. As I have stated before in othe posts, I put all of my trust in LiveAquaria for fish. My Copperband is the most beautiful and healthy fish I have ever seen and he eats mysis and cleaned out my Aipts in 2 days. Also, I have only lost 1 fish from LA and he was DOA. They credited With no ??s asked. For me, LFS is for non livestock from now on although I like wet pets coral and have not had problems with that at all.

Are you sure that the salesperson wasn't misinformed. I'm sure this accounts for some of the bad advice we get. Any store's fish department is only as good as it's manager...

I'm still a huge supporter of buying fish in the store, and besides the Lamark (that was a self-admitted risk that I was well aware of at the time) I haven't had any problems with the fish. I've also found that I'm able to avoid ich problems without QT by buying in the store. *knock on wood* To each his own I guess.

That the sales person was misinformed about me having a coral tank? There is not mistake on that. When I started my tank I depended on Wet Pets a lot as I was new to this. so if I wasn't sure I asked them. They tested my water, they knew what fish I had and what coral and what my long term goals were with my tank. They know that my long term goal is to have a reef tank but want a few fish for movement. Now on that same note, I haven't been there as much as I have been much more comfortable with the hobby. This guy particular is the guy is waits on me every time as he see me come a mile away. I have never walked out of there under a 100.00 and have thousands in that store.

I'm not upset about it as the fish hasn't caused that much damage, it is very pretty and he has been hanging out with the Yellow Tang. It is just the principle that if you know someone has a reef tank then you shouldn't sell that a fish that isn't reef safe but on the other hand I should do my homework before buying a fish. Then again, I went in to buy a flame fish which I did do my homework and bought this one as it was so pretty. The one I did do my homework on died. LOL

Do you know which butterfly they sold you? There are two kinds; a Heniochus diphreutes that feeds on plankton and is reef safe and Heniochus acuminatus which is not reef safe. The acuminatus has a bigger snout.
