Okay so i just got one of these 2 days ago an he is acting somewhat strange i have a 155 gallon mixed reef with lots of corals and rock work good flow and water quality 1 hippo tang purple tang mystery wrasse 5 chromis lyretail antheias and a clown as far as i can tell no one is really picking on him that bad tangs may chase him for a sec if hes in thier way but he swims around the tank in a cuicut like patern only sits for a few seconds doesnt seem right to me anyone had the same thing happen i thought they were perching fish.

They perch waiting for prey (ambush predators). If you have shrimp, they may become dinner. Otherwise, a great fish with super personality.

I've had mine for 5 years now and it does the same thing by the sounds of it. Mine does laps of the tank and doesn't actually perch that often. It will do sometimes and has its favourite places but it is a very active fish.
On the other hand i have a longnosed hawk and it is completely different, sitting in one spot and rarely moving.

Thanks Moort82 i gues i was thinking he was going to act like a longnose but he act more like a tang swiming i a large circular pattern sitting in certain spots along the way for maybe a sec r two hes wearing me out watching him

Mine does the same, although with time he has become a little more chilled.
Not a scared fish, within a few days he had figured out how/where the feeding schedule happened and was eating out my hand.

In Tahiti things guys will perch in large groups within a single coral head. No kidding I've seen 30-40 of them in a single coral head. They don't really move around much once they have found a territory they are comfortable with.

In my tank I thought they were good community fish. No one really picked on them, and they didn't pick on anyone. I thought they were interesting - they had unique personalities.
