Flame Scallop

Ok has anybody ever kept one of these for over a year. I know that they do not do well in aquariums for the most part, but i have been doing some resreach and it seems a few have had succes with them. I have found some good articles on them, about there care and feeding, also on there life spans it seems that they only have 3 to 4 years sometimes 5.

Iwould just like to know if anybody has tried these just to see if there is anybody has tried.

i've had a normal flame scallop for two years, and had an electric for 10months max...i think the normal ones tend to live a little longer. but i was using phytofeast and cyclopeeze as smaller foods.

Gimplar, how are you feeding yours....I take cyclopeze and phytoplankton, mix it up, turn off my pump and then using a baster I "bathe" the scallop in the "fog."

Josh, I read the same thing AFTER I bought mine...I resolved myself to trying to help it live as long as I can.

i have not gotten one yet, my wife saw one and wanted too know if if we could keep one so i started the resreach on them. thats the reason for the post.

They are pretty cool.

the electrics are awesome, but i dont mix mine, but i do turn off my main pump. I used freeze dried cyclopeeze,but the frozen bars are MUCH better, i recently found that out, cause theres no soakingand no floaters. The only bad thing i can saw about them, is that they dont like hte light very much, i bought about 4 electric flame scallops and within 2 days they were all hidden from plain site, although at a right angle you could see one or two pretty well. Depends on how your rock work is set up. i had them in 125gal with about...200+lbs of liverock. i'veheard their short life has something to do with certain trace elements taht could be crucial to their survival that we havnt figured out yet. i dosed with kalk, alk, and iodine.

Thanks Gimplar...right now I only have one in my 125, but I've noticed the same thing about the light (it always seems to hide out of sight). I do use the frozen bars of cyclopeze - seems to work very well.
