Flame wrasses

My flame wrasse just changed from female to male. Thought I would post a couple of pictures for fun :)

I have a trio, and from what I understand it is possible that more than one will change eventually. But for now, I am just riding it out to see what happens. This is the only male I have so far.

Here "he" is at the very beggining of the change:

Thanks for looking!

Nice! My favorite fairy wrasse. The underbelly will turn more white as time goes. The anal fin will turn completely yellow. Truly stunning fish especially when they flash!

Thanks! They are really cool, the male chases the females a little more now but I am taking that as a good sign. Maybe he can keep them in line so no more males haha.

His anal fin is about half yellow today. I'll post another pic in a day or so.

It only gets better from here. So long as the tank isnt too big, it may prevent the others from turning male.

Unfortunatly for myself and many others tank size has nothing to do with the transition to male. Many have had all feamales that have turned to male over time and constantly fought. There was a thread on this not 2 days ago that probably isnt too burried yet. Hopefully your stays females for you.

Well I'm not 2 far from you so if you end up with all males I would be glad to take one of your hands.:)
Beautiful pics

:sad2: Well, I re-organized my PB account and all my links moved

Just an update, and to replace some of the photos no longer appearing in the initial post.

Male then:

The "girls":

The male flashes several times a day now... especially when I turn down the flow for feeding.

He has been doing his job keeping the girls in line so far. The females are both about the same size, and neither appears to be morphing at this point. The male is easily twice their size and has even passed my leopard wrasse in growth in a few short weeks.

Beautiful fish!!!!!!!:eek1:

I'm placing a flame wrasse order tomorrow. Still on the fence about ordering one male, or two females.

How long has it been from the time you noticed that one of the fish were turning male till now? I'm just trying to figure out how long it takes to go from female to super male.

Thanks in advance, and again, you have some incredible fish!!!!!

Peace
EC

If I were you, I'd get two females, and jsut let nature take its course.

Okay, okay, okay.....:sad2: I'll order the females.

It's really really hard not to go for the instant gratification and get the male.

Thanks for the help.

Shouldn't take too long. When I had 3 females one starting turning male in less than a month.

I now have just one male.

The "how long does it take" question has no set answer; a few weeks to many months. It depends on too many things to put any set time frame on it.

If I were you, I'd simply opt for a single female (not 2, nor a male) and wait.
