Flasher Wrasse going through TT method?

I'm looking for some advice from the wrasse owners out there. I plan on getting 3 flasher wrasse in the near future, and I'm wondering how I should go about quarantining them.

I've read, from Evolved's reef safe wrasse thread, that wrasses stress out much more than other fish when moving from tank to tank. I had planned on doing the TT method with all fish, but this is making me rethink how I should go about doing this with the wrasses I plan on getting.

I've also read that wrasses don't take to PraziPro as well as other fishes. This is also a part of my standard quarantine procedure.

How do you quarantine your wrasses?

Would quarantining 3 male flasher wrasses, of different species, at the same time be a problem? I use a 10g and a 20g long for my TT.

Can't help myself, but I'd like to see what people say since I plan on getting 3 flashers myself down the road.

If you introduce all 3 to the QT at the same time, you shouldn't have any issues. I would use the 20gal though vs. 10. Obviously make sure there are plenty of hiding places (PVC fittings and small sections of piping work fine), make sure the tank is 100% covered, and obviously cycled to handle the bioload of three fish at once.

My usual with Wrasses is wait two weeks to make sure they are eating well before doing Prazi. Then dose Prazi, wait a week and do another dose. After that is done, two to four more weeks of observation for a total of 6-8 weeks.

i used TT on my mccosker's wrasse and he came through fine. same with a female red velvet fairy wrasse. just finished TT with her and she is in observation for a couple more weeks before she goes into the acclimation box/dt.

That's good to hear. Did you start TT right away with the McCosker's, or wait a few days then start it.

Tank transfer is fine with them, just make it nice simple with matching parameters so you can just do a simple lift over and make them feel like they landed in the same place.

Ive never had any issues using prazi with them and wrasses dont normally have any issues eating with or without it IME. Ive even treated my wrasses with copper on occasion, the trick is to go really slow with the dosage over a weeks time.

i started within a couple of days of getting him from LA.

the female, i didn't start for about a week i think just because i was working every day.

Done three. They do the play dead thing after a transfer which is worrying, so it must be somewhat stressful. Haven't lost one yet, and they still eat fine with prazi.

Wrasses do not handle the slightest overdose of Prazi. I added slowly to the tank and by that I mean 1/4 of the dose over a few hours. Be sure to do a water change before your second dose.

Just make sure to have a net or screen cover, I lost a fairy eraser through a half-inch gap in my cover once.

Thanks for the advice and shared experiences. :) I feel better about going through with TT now. I'll be sure to go slow with the Prazipro and I already have tightfitting glass covers for the tanks.

As Brett outlines below, TT should be fine. That type of transition (TT) isn't what I had in mind when I wrote such. Moving from one barren tank to another barren tank with the same sort of items in the tank wouldn't be a big deal.

That's not my experience at all with Prazi, and I never hesitate to use it.

Marshall pretty much does the same type of QT regiment as me; 2 rounds of prazi and treat for nothing else unless the need arises. QT for a minimum of 6, but preferably 8, weeks.

I don't see a problem there.

+1

Agree, but I'm still not a fan of copper. I'd rather use it as a last resort if other methods are not an option.
