Flasher Wrasses

Hi,

Im thinking of setting up a 50 gallon cube and was considering a flasher wrasse.

My hypothetical stocking for this tank is:

1 Ocellaris Clown
1 Royal Gramma
1 Neon Goby
(+maybe a bangaii or a firefish if theres room)

And heres my question, I wanted to keep a McCoskers Wrasse. I want him to keep his color, so could I add 1 female, or do I need >2 females? Ideally I would just want 1 female to cut down on bioload...

Also, I have heard that adding two male flashers of different species will help keep their color, and they will display more. Im just worried that the display could turn more serious in a 50 gallon tank.

Any tips from people who have kept this species would be much appreciated

I had one a few years ago. I had him & 3 females, not sure what the minimum requirement is. When he died, one of the females turned male. He swam a LOT when he was flashing, back & forth in the tank. He didn't swim a lot up and down, so I'm not sure how a cube might hinder him flashing. I have a couple of crappy vids on my Flickr if you want to take a look at his swimming/flashing.

I've had a male McCoskers for about 9 months now in my 90 cube with a Potter's angle, Helfrichi's, tail spot blenny, Randall's SG and black cap basslet. Everyone gets a long very nicely and the flasher is usually all over the cube, has not lost any color and frequently flashes. Beautiful fish.

One female would be sufficient, two would be better. Very prolific jumper; egg crate will not keep them in.

Hmmm, what sort of tank cover do you use, that would have the least amount of negative impact on lighting?

A mesh cover (1/4 inch holes) such as used by bradleyj (who is tired of my referring people to him).

Never tired Steve. :wavehand:
The more people we can educate on these fish, the better chance we have keeping them alive. So keep on referring.:)

bradleyj, it is just that you have what I consider the 99.5% solution and it is so much better than anything else that I have seen. So, since I love wrasses, I keep trying to keep them alive and well with your solution.
