Flashlight & paper

I was reading on another site and they were talking about checking your zoa's for any problem's.They said to turn of lights on tank and in room take a flashlight and cover it with red paper and check your zoa's.Does anyone know anything about this and what it does.Can someone please give me a little more info. on this and how it works???

Only thing I can think of is maybe it allows predators, or irritants to come out even with the light on them. With your lights on, or a flashlight on them, they could stay spooked and not come into view. However looking with a dim red light, it may not spook them and bring them into your view to see. Maybe this is what they were doing?

I use someting like this.. LED flashlight with interchangeable lense... the red allows you to view your tank without freaking out the inhabitants and making them scurry and hide. THe red light either can't be seen or is hardly seen.. so allows you to view the tank in the dark , allowing all creatures to comeout and be seen. even predators.
