I'm in Florida with my girlfriend right now. We were walking in the ocean off Peanut Island near West Palm and she stepped on a buried fish that darted up and reburied itself near the shore line. It was about thirteen inches long and black with white spots. It was definitely not a flounder as it was symmetrical like a stargazer (though I think those live in deep water). It's coloration pattern resembled a stars and stripes puffer. It had an anterior dorsal spine and two fanning pectoral fins that came out at 90 degrees to the dorsal fin and helped it to burrow in quickly. It's making me crazy that I can't find a picture of this fish online to ID it. Any thoughts?
