Flow in large peninsula tanks

What sort of timing do you have on the streams?

I'd also like to know what settings you have on your streams. I really like your idea.

It looks like the streams are aimed straight through the hole. Is there enough room to angle them at all?

What about the detritus under the rock work? Is that also being flushed away?

Right now I have the Streams running 100% all the time, but I'm going to experiment with turning different ones on and off at different times.

They can be angled about 15 degrees as needed.

I get a few small patches of detritus, I siphon that out every once and while.

I just had my NO3 and PO4 tested professionally by top of the line equiptment.

NO3 2.2
PO4 0.01

I'm pleased with the results, I feed my fish well, they're fat as can be,
so the system is working as planned.

Mantis, now that your tank has been setup for a while would you do anything differant flow wise?

What lighting setup do you have....

Yes, I would like to know that also. Any regrets, or other thoughts. What you have is very Unique. The design looks great and I would love to copy it.

Mantis, What do you have in your system that is stopping coriline growth from appearing on your barebottom? And second, what did you use to glue the eggcrate to the glass? thanks

Mantis, How do you like the faux sand bed, would you do it again? I'm thinking about it for the new tank but think once it gets covered in coraline it would defeat the purpose. I'll probably go with a 1-2" sand bed and hope it don't get blown around to much.

Hey, I just found this thread again, sorry I missed your questions.

I would do nothing different, everything is going great. I am thinking about replacing the two upper Streams with a couple of waveboxes. The space was designed to accomidate either a Stream or a Wavebox. Just didn't have the funds.

I'm getting some coraline on the faux bed but I still like the look and would do it again in a heartbeat. The bed looks just like my liverock and the two have a very seemless look. Here are some new pics.

That looks great. Now I'm changing my mind for the 12th billionth time again on what I want for the tank bottom. Could you give a play by play on how you did the sand bed, or a link? Thanks

I like the streams look but personally I was thinking of having the sump returns at the top of the overflow side. Then have two closed loop retuns about midway down the overflow side. Then have two more closed loop returns closer to the bottom. I was thinking of putting in an om4-8 way. The intake would be near the bottom, coming up through the bottom, near the opposite side of the overflow side. I was also thinking of putting a few more closed loop returns higher near the opposite side, again coming up through the bottom, that would be aimed at where the water overflows.

I think that doing it that way would have the circulation woring really well. What do you think? How would you change it? I know going up through the bottom probably isn't the best but I want to be able to hide it all and not have something you can see coming down in the water from the top or having cords everywhere.

Tell me what you would change and why... please.
Sorry I would diagram it but I don't know what to use to make good diagrams.

only tthing about the returns to the CL pump at the bottom would be having to clean them when they get dirty....under your rocks would be a pain

Mantis, just want to give you a compliment. I found a picture of your tank on an aquarium manufacturing companies website (I guess the place that made your tank) and have been using it for my wallpaper on my laptop for at least a few months. I just saw this thread today and thought "I know that tank!! Its my wallpaper!!". Absolutely beautiful! I have used it for inspiration several times. Never knew it was actually someones tank instead of the companies.

Thanks for the compliment, yep, it's mine. From concept to creation has been a long haul, but I'm very pleased with the results.

Flyflicker,
Just make sure you have enough flow at the other end of the tank. That's why I use the Streams, they can push an 18 inch wide path of water 6 feet, easy. That's pretty hard to replicate with a 1 inch return jet.
