I was wondering if anyone has had luck keeping flower pot corals or alveopora. I want one in my 20 but I hear they're hard to keep.

i had one under PC lighting and they were really colorful (neon green) mines was branching though. i heard you need to target feed but when i feed my fishes they got fed also. so i never needed to. I sold mine about a year ago. My friend had a red/pink one and was good for 1 year never target feed. one day it just bleach out and died. Are they hard to keep? I am not totally sure but i never had a trouble with mine. I wonder how did the new owner take care of it.

Some people are starting to have luck with them. They seem to like dirtier tanks with no predators. They are from murky grass beds, not reefs. The do not eat phyto. Reports of them feeding on cyclopeeze. There is a website somewhere about a hobbiest doing research on them. Goniopora project or something. He has had a few spawn babies and has gotten some to regenerate tissue loss.
In my opinion, these should not be collected. They normally don't last a year and are getting scarce in the wild. Some of the encrusting species have shown to do well, but look much different.

I try a couple green goni when I started the hobby but was never able to keep them alive for more than 3-4 months.
I got a small red goni about a year ago and it's still a live but haven't grown much. I got a purple goni from Atlantis about 6 months ago and it's still doing good. I really don't target feed them at all. Once every 2 weeks, I feed cyclopeeze mix with Roti Feast and Brine shrimp when the lights are out. At that time, the gonis are usually not open.
I read somewhere that the green are the ones that are hard to keep. People had success with other color.
