My next build will be done like that.

Heh. Look at the VERY first post in this thread, and you'll get your answer. :)

I think I get it now. I guess my question should have been how did you get the sand and shell to stick to it. Because if you trim the foam then it must have been dry.

Well I don't know but I guess the epoxy reson is a glue?

Great idea!!!

It looks like he applied the epoxy resin and sprinkled the sand over it while it was still wet.

Yep - as above, brush on the resin and then sprinkle on sand/gravel...the resin is sticky enough to work with like that for about 4-5 mins so i just did a bit of resin....bit of sprinkle :) It was the most fun part of the build!

Give it 2 hrs to dry hard then hose it down to remove the excess (there's LOADS...i did the sprinkling in a large tub so i could catch the excess i applied) After the hose down...leave one day to dry then touch up with more sand in any spots missed on the first run. Wait 2hrs......done - stick in the tank (or do like me and wait for months because you are too busy to fill the thing!)

i got some good (deqad) base rock from two part solutions - called eco rocks or something like that.

where did you order the rock fragments from?

I bought them online from a german store - in the UK live rock can be up to £14 per kg (thats about $4000 ;) ) The german stuff is live rock and coral heads that has dried out......it ships at about 30% the cost of live rock in stores here so is used a lot.

very nice deal man,

anyone know a good supplier in the us or something?
because i am looking for some coral heads as well,
i'm moving in 3 weeks, want to get as much done before that.

This has got to be the best way to make your own aquascape ever!

lol...Well i won't disagree ;)

AWSOME!!!!!
Im so lucky,to find this,I just got a 90 yesterday and was thinking about gluing some foam to the back wall and just waitng for it to naturally coat over i had seen somthing on here before about doing that, but man this is waaaaaaaaaay better. Thank you so much for sharing.I cant wait to get started on mine

FWIW - i ended up using the crack filler Great STuff and poured sand on it once it was applied. No need for epxy as I got a pretty good coating of sand on it. Plus, the crack filler is a more neutral color like the live rock co pared to the more yellow color of the other Great Stuff. At least it was in the cans I bought.
