Foam Rockwall w/ built in refuge for a 26 gal bowfront

You sound like my wife! It's getting to full... Blah blah blah.

Thought this was odd, I stuck a piece of shrimp on my rock boring urchin and it ate it! I thought they only fed on algae, although it had 0 interest in the nori I put in a while back.

Haha thanks. Good ol' Microsoft Word!

Tank update time.

Bubble tip has gone a walkin'.

Current FTS

Completely removed and cleaned everything this week.
Skimmer, UV sterilizer, Heater, Canister filter, and MP10 wet side.

Removed sterilizer pre filter (probably needs a new bulb)

Removed and replaced 300w heater with original 100w heater.
Tank temp dropped like a rock that night (73°ish). Apparently the heater was the reason the tank never getting below 82°-84° for months. I had it on the lowest setting (68°) because I never thought it came on due to the water always being too warm. Guess it was and I never saw the light.. All my crabs molted that night. Now with the 100w back in, the temp is back to around 78°-80°.

Canister filter started leaking again...
Removed it (which is a pita), re-sat the seal, reinstalled and it leaked again! :headwalls: Pulled it back out and was about to throw it in the trash when a light bulb turned on in my dome. (after tearing it apart to find the issue) The problem was the inlet tube leaking inside the case and overflowing down the side a drop at a time. I replaced the ghetto rigged tubes with one piece of tubing-problem solved! Until it started to over flow when the filler cap popped off because I need pliers it's so tight. lol no leaks now.

I broke off the protruding part of the big shell on the wall. It was starting to look ragged and blocking some light where the rbta was.

The two toadstools didn't like being rubber banded to rocks and are shedding the bottom of their foots. Weird creatures..

Sold everything in my little soap dish frag rack this week! Someone came by and bought it all. :)

Scooter stretching for some grub.

Cut out a fan that did't really spin - I assume due to my lack of electrical knowledge.. Mangrove now in its spot

Your tank looks great! How bout another FCS (full cabinet shot)! Is it still as obsessively organized as the last pic you posted?

You know it! ;)

Minus one little bottle of additive and one less glass test tube I broke last week by knocking it into the floor from the last FCS. Lol

Everything needs some sort of order.
Plus, it makes me look way better than I really am having all sorts of chemicals and additives I don't know how to use ;)
...dump a little of this, pour a little of that, measure precisely with my calibrated vision, accidentally dump too much in, etc. Haven't nuked it yet!

Nice to see that there are a small handful of people who actually read the crap I post. Lol how many think I actually know what I'm doing?? Haha.

Thanks Texan for the kind words.

I've been meaning to post about the condition of the wall, but I usually forget.
I noticed that the wall looks the worst at the top 10%. For what ever reason, I now believe that my high intensity lighting is to blame for the deterioration of the wall as the rest of the wall looks like it did when I first made it. Not sure if it is due to the 4 UV leds or what, but that is the major culprit. The turbos also graze on it, but not a lot and Snappy still screws with the bottom in his lair.

When I make a wall for the next tank (my eel build) that will replace this one, the top and bottom will be mostly rock. I now have my eye on a 47gal column for a ribbon eel. This won't happen for another 2-3 years though when we move to a bigger place.

I moved the people stylo to the left side of the tank so the rbta would get more light.

Glass top?
Come-on Michael, I already have one of those. [emoji14]
You're close though.

One major part was left out of the pic. (Just ordered it online) the rest I just bought from Lowe's. Funny story. Ended up waiting in line for 15-20 min because two people took forever. Then to top it all off, I was panhandled in the parking lot...

Screen top?
Bingo!

Here are my reasons for ditching the glass top:

Hard to keep clean
Salt creep build up
Less light penetration
Smoked gray lid joint strip blocks light
Opaque clear plastic back trim blocks fuge light (gonna look for a macro or two for the fuge like I originally planned)
Requires fans running 24/7 to eliminate condensation
Extra noise (bedroom tank)
I prop the lid open for ventilation (with a 1/2" rod)
That rod is sitting at the bottom of the tank because I'm always knocking it in... (won't stay glued to lid)
Hard reaching in tank as the lid hits the light and can't be propped open.
Heavy

My idea is a diy spinoff of the BRS screen kit in an effort to save money and have a completely custom top that is custom shaped for my tank and equipment with a shaped bow as the lid. Better light transmission and ease of use. Plan to have a small lid that clears the light and a secondary hinge to have access to the entire tank.

Here is my progress so far. The long piece will have slits and bent to the bow shape. Joints will all be glued, then sprayed black. Then I wait for the 1/4" clear netting to arrive and install it!

Mangrove will be relocated to the right corner of the display next to the skimmer.
The plastic back strip will be cut and glued around the equipment.

Updated progress:

Glued and sanded all joints, just needs paint and netting!

I have to lift the light a 1/2" for the lid to clear, but it works like designed, for now..

I'm slightly concerned about the netting as I thought it would just fold, but it will have to have slack at the hinges or it will either rip or the lid won't open. We shall see when it gets here.

Check this out!!

My wife looked at me like I was a a retarded little kid..

She reluctantly let me get them ;)
