Foam Rockwall w/ built in refuge for a 26 gal bowfront

I just found this thread. The wall looks really nice.
Thanks, jraker!
- Hoaster didn't pay you to come over here did he???
I'm on to you Michael...

The next few posts are gonna be pic heavy!
Got the phone wet and took some underwater pics today.

I'll start with some random stuff, like the ATO filler tube doing is thing, the 'fuge pump area, my purple urchin from the Keys, rbta, and a hermit crab.

Next we got the green digi (it broke in two spots so I took it out and glued them back on. Lol), leptoseris (notice the bleached spot at the bottom right from having it to high up), brain coral, xenia, and toadstools.

Dude! Awesome pics! Your tank looks amazing! Every time I think you've maxed out your tank you do this. I think your wife's going to notice! Tell her they just "multiplied", yeah, that'll work…

Hehe...

Those are some cool pictures, though. I love that urchin.
Thanks!

That deep red w/ purple spine urchin and my brown w/ tan spine rock boring urchin's came from the Florida Keys. Found them flipping over rocks and they have been in the tank for a year and a half now. They will gladly eat pellets and small bits of shrimp, but not algae or nori. I don't feed them hardly at all.

My blenny wedged itself in this shell I foamed into the wall. The hole has slowly gotten bigger and it decided to chill there for a while. Lol

Took him a while to wiggle his way out!

Looks good, nice aqua scape. Great mixture of corals.

Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing. Oh - forgot to ask. What are you flying if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks for the compliments!

I mainly fly small planes.
I've flown a Cessna 150 Commuter (spin training), Cessna Skyhawk (172sp), Piper Arrow (pa-28r), and Piper Seminole (pa-44)

My wife took this picture last week after my flight instructor check ride. :)

In case you weren't sure - that's me lol
Piper Arrow

I now have my Private, Instrument, Commercial, Multi-engine, and Instructor ratings :O I have about 330 hours of flying under my belt.
Now I need a job. Lol

Here's a fun one! Spin Training - I'm in the right seat.

Very cool. And congrats on the various ratings. Time consuming, dedication, and of course everything else that comes with it. That is how a good friend of ours started with is private. Then became a local sheriff which had an opening later for a heli pilot. He applied and was accepted now flying those.

Always amazing how tiny private planes are compared to military aircraft :) I've maintained F-15's for 4 years on the weapons/avionics side. Did some small B52 work, then guard/reserve for 20 years on RF4's and ended on C-130's.

That Piper looks tiny - lol. But I bet fun to fly.

That's pretty cool!

The arrow is small, and flies like a turd. Lol especially on a hot day...

Some sweet urchin pics.
It finally surfaced from hanging out in the back so I relocated it to the front.

It amazes me how much better the tank looks after scraping the glass! Gives way more clarity and things look crisper.

Nice pics. Is that dusk, in the FTS? Does the urchin help prune the caulerpa?
That's 100% intensity, with the white balance turned all the way down on my phone. This makes all the FTS pics better and you can see everything without getting washed out.

Here's one without adjusting the wb.

Otherwise I leave it at about 50% on the white balance slide for everything else.

I wish they would!
Spent an hour yesterday hand picking each individual strand and pulling it off the wall... Pain in the ***. They break and stick to the wall like there's no tomorrow!

The urchins are meat eaters. Fascinating watching one grab a little piece of shrimp and use it's spines to grab and move it to its mouth. I rarely feed them.

I believe it to be Caulerpa Serrulata..

Man, just sensation pictures!!! Which camera you made it?

Thanks!, these are all taken with my Motorola Droid Turbo in "Widescreen 16:9" 15.5MP camera and adjusting the white balance built in.

I need to try using the "Standard 4:3" 21MP camera setting on it.

The widescreen fills the whole screen on my phone so I use that as opposed to having black bars on the sides.

The macro shots are taken with the same phone underwater inside the tank.

Do you have to clean the sand? Did u rinse your sand before putting on your tank?

I do not clean the sand because that would mean doing a water change - which I'm too lazy to do. :spin1:

The gravel vac attachment sucks haha It's too long and the majority of crap doesn't get to the top. I could shorten it...

With this in mind, there is a LOT of detritus/sediment/foam bits all throughout the sand bed. It only ever gets stirred when I'm cleaning the glass with the mag float - this only stirs the substrate up next to the glass.

However, it stays nice and white! No algae or other discoloration even without vacuuming it.

I think I did rinse the sand prior to filling the tank, but only got about half of the sediment out because the bag said it could be dumped straight in without washing it.

In case you were referencing the sand for the foam wall, yes, I thoroughly washed it. Not that I think it really mattered.

Alright, I need some feedback.

Attached are 15.5 and 21 megapixel pictures of the same images.

Please select the better of the two for each set of pictures

Check out how big the rbta is getting!

Been over a month since I last posted in here!

Whats new? Nothing really.

I had a sudden realization that I screwed up with the caulerpa last night.. Its a real pain in the *** having to remove it every week or two, but it makes the top of the wall look better.
Last night I realized that I should have glued some of my gsp to the top! Grows way slower than the caulerpa and could serve the same purpose! Something I might experiment with.

I decided to list the clowns for sale locally on the Craigslist. We'll see if there's any takers. I saw a really nice juvi blacker ice clown at the LFS and decided to just start over with a small clown and eventually finding it a nice mate. Also listed the big GSP rock as well - should make the tank look bigger with a less-cluttered sand bed. Snappy won't appreciate me taking his big rock.
Still no takers on the free damsel on CL...

Need to frag the zoas pretty soon and thinking about selling an elegans.

I moved the torch and its much happier now blowing around.
