Hi Folks,

WRT feeding my brain corals & doughnut coral, is there a frozen shrimp etc that actually sinks & doesnt just float away - even bought some large krill pieces today & yip they float away LOL.

Have cut pieces of fish etc, but my one brain mouths are very small & like to feed him small pieces of shrimp?

Thanks a million for any ideas
Cheers
Michael

You probablly want to turn your pumps off first of all. I've had luck with silversides. Sometimes they do float though. Why is it that you want it to sink? Do you just don't want to get your hands wet?

My favorite all around LPS food is PE mysis. If the mouths you are feeding are small or don't have a good capture response, then chopping it can be helpful. It shouldn't float if it has been properly thawed.

Capelin roe is negatively buoyant because when they spawn the eggs are deposited in the substrate. It works great for chalices and other small mouthed LPS, and larger mouthed LPS will also consume it. An added plus is that it thaws very quickly compared to PE (I thaw everything in refrigerated saltwater, so thawing PE takes much longer than normal). Some people use the prepared "masago" (which is intended for sushi I believe) and rinse off the color additives. I would recommend finding some frozen Capelin at an Asian market and harvesting the eggs yourself. It's not difficult and provides a rich food for your fishes too.

Have you tried fauna marine lps pellets? They have worked well for me.

+1, I get the best results with sinking pellet foods, and use Hikari Marin S since it's smaller. Haven't tried the FM pellets but have heard great things on those too. I used to use mysid, but since the pellet food starts out dry it's actually got tons more protein.

Hikari jumbo mysis sinks, fast, and LPS love it IME.
