My old mag ballast is like ten years old. still firing my bulbs like a champ. My question is will old capacitors effect MH bulb performance if the bulbs are still firing and lighting wo problems?? in terms of bulb output and color.
I'm not sure on that one I do know that if your ballast starts to go, your bulb wont fire all the way even if the capacitor is good. Just went through that situation. The charge from the capacitor is what excites the gases in the mh bulb to make it fire but it has to have the right amount of current going to it from the ballast to do it. I think if your capacitor was going bad it may not send enogh juice to the mh bulb to fire it. I'm not an expert maybe someone else will chime in.
