For those with RO units

Carring gallons of water from Wally world to my place is kinda getting old, so Im thinking about getting a RO unit. Couple of questions.

Do any of you have them set up in a rented apartment or can you only install if you own (playin with/changing the pipes) to set it up?

Would it be a big hassle to set one up in an apartment? (I have no water source other than my sinks and tub, oh ya and the fish burrial chamber)

Did you notice a large increase in the water bill cause of all the wasted water? (some is expected)

Would it even be worth getting a full RO unit if I only go through roughly 20-30 g a month with my saltwater? (I go through more with my fresh water but I don't worry about them)

Any other Pro/Cons you can think of?

I think the RO water is definitely worth the expense when compareing it to the quality of tapwater. When you compare prices between RO and what you buy, I question the economics of the situation. At only 25 gallons per month it may not be worth the added expens. How much does your water cost down in the valley? Factor all this in and decide which works best for you from an economic stanndpoint. Don't let installation stop you. All you really need is a little bit of copper pipe expposed on your water line and a saddle valve (under $5) and you are in business with RO.

IMO being in an apartment there is going to be a lot of water waste with an RO. I take my waste water line and run it into a 40 gallon garbage can and then use that water for washing clothes or watering plants. Don't know if you want to do all that in an apartment but with my RO ($100 eBay special with a membrane from The Filter Guys) I would guess I have 3 gallons of waste water for every 1 gallon of RO water. You could buy one of those under the sink units that has a water storage tank on it, for a smaller aquarium I guess it would work.

I supose at under $20 a month for me to do water now, it would probably bring on more hassle and money if I bought the system. Thanks for your input.
