how long do you figure it has been in there:eek2:

kids, or somebody with real malice in his/her heart and a knowledge of chemistry.
If you possibly can get to an lfs that has polyfilter go get it and start running it. If not today, tomorrow. If none have it [use the phone] then see if you can get it express-shipped online.

Meanwhile run carbon: carbon can sop up some. Polyfilter is what can actually yank copper out of the water. If you have the option to delicately remove the contacting sand from the area where that rested, do.

And don't assume accident. This was not a nice thing to do.

a penny in a 120 gal won't amount to much at all. there isn't hardly any copper in a penny to begin with. i think you'll find very little copper with a test.

One little penny wont do much except add trace levels... copper is a trace element in saltwater anyways.

Seachem Cuprizorb would be a good purchase just in case.

Then, for your other 'ailments', some Purigen & carbon in case there are any trace contaminants.

I don't think much can happen with a penny in a 120, esp because pennies aren't made with pure copper anymore, it's just a SUPER thin electro-plateing layer of copper.

pennies after 1984 ate like 97% zinc.

a cool experiment is to file off one side of a penny so you see the zinc core, and drop it in some hydrochloric acid. the acid will react with the zinc, but not the copper, so in the end youll have a paper thin copper shell, a bunch of zinc chloride and hydrogen gas... cool stuff :)

sure. but everything is legal if you don't get caught...

largo--that's in florida isn't it I heard the same thing applies to getting your own live rock and sand from a reef.

I saw this on Modern Marvels just the other day! Pretty cool experiment :)

If your Lincoln Memorial penny has a date before 1982, it is made of 95% copper. If the date is 1983 or later, it is made of 97.5% zinc, with a thin copper coating, or "clad."

Well it looks to be 1978 pretty well corroded mostly green. no copper test kit at my lfs so ill just do my water change and see what happens..

there is a ban on that right?? I heard you can get fined pretty heavy if you get caught

You take a gobi out of the ocean and get fined---we take a gobi out a Lake Ontario and get thanked for it:lol:
