Fox face a coral nipper?

T Diddy

Happy to be here
My foxface has been a model citizen until recently...it developed a taste for acans. Any idea why the change in behavior recently? Could it just be hungry?

I'll elaborate a little...The foxface has recently begun chewing on acans. Four different colonies, and only acans. I never knew them to be coral nippers. He did a great job on my bubble algae, and it is now gone. Could he be picking because he is out of greenery to eat?

I was thinking of placing an order for assorted macroalgaes to place in the display. Think this might help??

How big is your foxface? You can try macro algae but in tank its usually impossible to grow it faster than a foxface/tang can eat them. Acans are particularly delicious to large tangs/foxfaces/angels so its going to be tough to get him to stop eating them. Tangs/foxfaces are only reef safe until they aren't...but this mostly happens when they grow to larger sizes.

Yes, unfortunately. Especially prone to nipping if they get hungry.

Thank you for the replies. I'll try to figure out a way to keep him stuffed. Beyond that I hope he will get into a fish trap...I like my acans
