not unless theyre messing with it, but its not going to go out of its way to start stabbing other fish. im sure when it flares its dorsal fins other fish will get the hint, others that take the risk might be more in danger. should be a peaceful fish.

Make sure that YOU do not get barbed. It is quite painful from what I understand. They do best if you have a lot of algae in your tank. Otherwise feed it greens.

ya im feeding it greens and frozen algae preparation from the lfs and ya im not trying to get barbed heard its like a bee sting but X 100 lol im good im staying away from him haha

as long as u dont headbut the fish u should be fine and other fish tend to leave them alone because of there venemous spines, i have 1 in my reef and its 1 of my fav fish

Kinda like other smaller fish will stay away from the Yellow Tang and its Barb on the tail, they just know better. But how often do you see a fish pester a yellow long enough to see it happen, not all that often.

I have one in my FOWLR tank. I had a lot of hair algae going. This beast went to work like a lawn mower. If was impressive to see. My yellow tang got stung. It was being a bit of a bully and the foxface had enough. It took a week or 2 for the tang to get over it. It was not swimming much and not eating at all. Now it is back to normal, but it is not so much of a bully either

The fish will quickly become a "true" pet. They are super interactive and have great personalities. We kept one a good 8 or 9 years and it was our fave fish back in our reefing days. As mentioned, these fish are truly like weedwhackers with fins (ours even had a go at appies once when it saw our CBB nibbling them).

As for toxicity, rabbitfish are less toxic than Scorpaeniformes, and the severity of the envenomation depends on the depth of the wound as well as contact time.

I love my one spot foxface he does what I call flexing probably not the right term but o well he flares his fines back and forth with his spines folding down and back up its fun to watch. He also changes color wants the lights go out he goes back into his cave and becomes more pale yellow with black blotches all over his body. Mine pretty much eats anything from algae to meaty foods.

I've been stabbed before... moved from one tank to the other, it did that fish flip I tried to catch it before it hit the ground, it was upside down spines flexed open... I watched in slow motion (yeah it really happens :D) as that fish stabbed me right in the palm of my hand with about 4 spines... blurted a quick obscenity and flipped it in the tank. It was quite painful, warm, swollen, and sore for a while. However your mileage might vary to how much of a reaction you have to any venom.

It has been my personal experience that pomacanthus angels dont like rabbits, I'm 4 for 4 in this department, all four of the last big angels I have kept skirmished with my rabbits frequently. I have witnessed all of the angels get repeatedly stung and it only seemed to make them more determined to drive the rabbit away from the lettuce clip or his favorite hole. I never saw any negative effect except a small welt or two where the angel got stung. All of my other fish are smart enough to leave the rabbits alone but my angels gotta be the tough guy.

Do you and your gf a favor- don't buy her fish that neither you nor her know nothing about. Rather ridiculous, not to mention irresponsible. What if this fish only ate live food and died- then what? What if it's venom was rather toxic and you or her were envenomated?

Foxface's are very sweet fish, great algae eaters and it would be hard to get stung by this fish, they arent aggressive fish, they will actually be the first ones to hide and camo! i think its VERY hard frommy personal experiences for any other fishto even get stungby them, my stingrays, and shark ran into mine 1000 times ,nothing ever happened. Im not saying dont be carefull, but i wouldnt worry so much, they do however grow very fast.

Good luck with him !!:bounce3:
