Foxface is not happy!

This fish reminds me of the betta I have in the kitchen. He's not swimming, just staring at his reflection and looking like he is going to impale something!

As soon as I fed the tank, he snapped out of it, his color returned and he went back to swimming like a normal fish! (Although he's still flicking his spines like he's trying to scare other fish away).

Too bad it will be a while before he is out of the Q-tank. (And looking at those spines, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to siphoning that q-tank every few days!)

Is it just a bare tank, or does he have some hiding places (large pvc fittings, or something else that's easy to clean and disinfect)?

He loks like my mag. Foxface when he's sleeping. He gets markings like that, hangs out on the bottom and puts out his spikes and sleeps.

Sleeping would make more sense. I guess they stick out their spines to deter would-be eaters.

And yes, there is decoration in the tank, but I will go though my PVC box and see if I have any large fittings.

I think he is an omnivore , he likes meat and veggie. Also fish get stressed with moving and some rock would relax him more.

Also salt water recieves oxygen from a gas exchange at the surface. So good steady water flow and an open air space ( no lid ) help bring in fresh O2.

He's stressed. Foxfaces are prone to be skittish, especially in a new situation. A bare tank is probably very difficult for them. Mine splays like that whenever I've been doing anything in the tank, and that's in a 185-gallon tank with lots of hiding places.

If you can put a biggish piece of PVC in the QT with him, I'm sure he would appreciate it.

Definitely agree with adding some PVC fittings to the tank. I have several 3" fittings in my QT tank, and my foxface made extensive use of them for hiding when he was in quarantine.

They can be very skittish fish, I'm sure your foxface will appreciate some added places to hide when he's resting.

Be really careful working in the tank around those spines... RC member Garage1217 has a thread about getting zapped by his rabbitfish. It doesn't sound like fun.
