I've had this guy for about a year now, got him originally off of another local reefer. Anyways he just recently decided to start sharpening his teeth on my Montipora cap. I still dont' have him out yet after about an hour of trying but I will get him out! He is about 6-7" and eats like a horse and has been disease free since I've had him. I'll let him go for $40

I'll take him if you can fish him out in the next 45 minutes. If not, I'm going to have to pass! :lol: Just kidding man, nice looking fish though. Aren't they good for eating hair algae as well?
 
I saw this fish this past Saturday and it still looks great! The rest of tinytools tank and his poker skills are, however, in question...lol Just kidding.

Somebody needs to buy this fish just to give them an excuse to go look at your tank!

Oohmiller looks to be first in line... i tried again to get this sucker out of there but it's still no joy. Any suggestions? remember the tank is in wall so I don't have access from the front, which makes it all that much harder.

Josh, your a funny man lol, thanks for the compliment. I think your the curse, first you take my money in poker then my foxface which has never touched a coral for over a year is munchin on my monti cap the day after you come over. ;)

as for a way to get him out, if you have room, i'd put some food in the back of a 5 gallon bucket, and put it in there, when the little rascal goes in the bucket try and pull it out. Should be easier to get him outta the bucket then the 300 gals!

But something tells me you won't be able to get a 5 gal in there....Just a thought!
 
Still not luck oohmiller. I'm not sure he is coming out. They are a very skittish type of fish to begin with so if you try to put a bucket in the tank he's going to stay as far away as possible. Still brainstorming

Can't believe you kept the pic Josh... Sone and Jeff have anough pictures from her to publish a book.
 
FWIW, I have had good luck twice getting foxfaces out of my tank with the use of a fish trap. In both cases, I caught them within a couple of nights of trying with the trap. Neither one of them could resist the temptation of caluerpa in the trap. I figured out that I actually had to set up the string that you use to spring the trap out of the fish's view because once they saw you approaching the tank to spring the trap, they dart for cover. This was after practically dismantling my tank on the first one I tried to remove and still not being able to net it.

As I said, I have fished two foxfaces out of my tanks, a Lo and a Magnificent. Both of them have randomly started destroying corals after months of being model citizens. One loved Caps and the other decided it like brains. Either I have absolutely the worst luck or they are not nearly as reef safe as the general consensus believes. It really bums me out because they are among my favorite fishes.

Don't know the brand. It seems that I borrow it on a regular basis from one the LFS. It is long cylinder-shaped, and has a little petry dish looking thing that you slide into the end of it to put in your food bait. To be honest, I haven't seen anything like it for sale online. All of the ones I can find are kinda boxy shaped and don't look like they would work real well after using this one.

I have also caught two dwarf angels with this trap as well.
 
I think I know about the one that you are talking about. This one works pretty much the same way. You just have to hook a piece of fishing string to the "trap door" and feed inside the tube and walk away with the string in your hand so the fish cannot see. Once he is in...let go of the string. You will have the fish within a few feedings if he is an aggressive eater.

I actually just gave up worrying about it and watching it closely and just taped the string to the outside of the tank using masking tape. Within a couple of nights, I caught both fishes as I was randomly walking by the tank and saw them in there munching on the macroalgae.
 
Awesome, I'll give it a shot. it's going to be a little tougher not having front access I'll have to run around the back of the tank pull the string then run around to the front and see what I got. lol should be pretty comical. So I guess i'm selling my fish for a fish trap nice
 
I can picture you running around your house now.....Don't trip over the kids!

Yeah I had to show my G/F the picture and she has an empty fridge so I used it as decoration! She got a kick out of it!
 
Well I got the fish about 20 minutes ago. These damn fish are so skitish. Every fish kept swimming in and out and the foxface finally did it.
