Foxface Rabbitfish - What veggies?

Hello,

Anyone out there own a Foxface? I just bought one at about 5 inches for 2 days now. I read on the net that this fish eats veggies, so I feed him seaweed. But he is not eating it. I am wondering if it is because he is still getting used to the new home. Or is he expecting a certain type of veggie? What do you feed your Faxface?

Thanks.
Kimha.

Mine is small, but he attacks the common green nori that I get at the supermarket. He's also fond of the meaty-type food cube, not so fond of the sponge-based foods.

Give him a few days, but he does need alot of leafy-green foods. If he won't eat the nori, try some romain lettuce (freeze it first).

yea same with my foxface...i just got him and i tried julians seaveggies and the food cube ....nothing yet...ummm what else do they like to eat.???

You can dry a little piece of broccoli. Mine ate that. Also, Rod's food. it seems to get every fish I have had that normally would not eat anything but live or special food...to eat it. Magic stuff. You can also try soaking the nori/seaweed in a little bit of garlic to help induce feeding.

Mine was fine on Rod's food. I spplemented with the nori every now and then as well as broccoli. Rod also has one that eats primarily Rod's food.

I just read an article in this months tropical fish hobbyist magazine all about rabbitfish/foxface the section on feeding says they are considered omnivorous but require a large amount of vegetable matter it says they are one best for hair algae ( It ate all mine ) it says they need daily feeding of nori/kelp/dried seaweed. I feed mine rod's frozen food ,also a mixture of dried seaweed purple, green, red most everyday.

Rod's food also has Nori in it and broccoli. Most fish will get there daily needs with Rod's food. Forgot to mention that earlier. Sorry.

it still will not eat....its been in there for about 3 or 4 days...still real skiddish ....any suggestions>>>???????

I have a magnificent foxface and when I first bought him It took about a week to eat anything I got real nervous but then at the 7th or so day he started eating also mine was real skiddish just like yours I would be patient give him a few days he should be fine.

Try spirulina flakes---it's smelly, besides easy to handle and stays in the water column. It may attract him, and I've rarely seen an herbivore turn it down.

i have just gotten a raccon butterfly and it would not eat anything at all live brine clams live worms nothin after 9 days i thought for sure he was just never going to make it in captivity till finally on the 13th day i guess he just got hungry enough and started taking some brine when i fed the other fish and now is eating regularly thank the fish gods .lol but at first when he would grab a brine shrimp he would shake his head and spit it out like his throat hurt ,i know sometimes from putting these fish in different salinity levels after being caught ,they can burn their gills and i think that this might of been his problen and now that he has been in a stable tank for 2 weeks he had time to heal and now is doing great ..justa thought
