frag rack preference

What do you prefer clear acrylic or black for a frag rack? I'm looking to buy one of those magnetic frag racks which go into the display tank. Curious if there are any pros/cons

I actually just drill holes in a small flat piece of live rock for a more natural display

but of those two I like the black eggcrate

Maybe I should just make my own. The acrlyic idea seems like it would be easier to clean the algae because it will be a smooth surface. But the black egg crate will block light from passing through it.

By the time you buy a good mag float and spend the time, glue, etc...you might as well just buy a frag rack, IMO. Besides, egg crate is hard to clean.

The problem I'm having is that the Eshopps large rack only has two magnets and it's not enough to hold on 1/2" glass. If I bump it, it will fall. I have tried by buy one from Captain Saltys, since the small one I have from them works fine...but they don't seem to be very willing to sell one for some reason. They're listing them on ebay but when I did the buy it now, they cancelled the auction and don't give me any options to buy it.

If you're going to make a frag rack, I'd use neodymium magnets. They're rust-proof and hold very strong! My LFS uses mag floats and it's been working well for the last year that I've followed them.

I ended up going with the rack BRS sells from ocean wonders(with neodymium magnets) because the eshopps magnets weren't going to be strong enough for my tank.

Good choice with neodymium magnets imo. You won't have to worry about your frag rack falling with the weight of corals and turbo snails.

I prefer the black magnectic frag racks. Once it gets dirty, just soak it in some vinegar and it's clean. Depending on how many frag you would like hold, make sure you get the strongest magnet possible.
