Frag wont open...

I bought a frag with about 20 polyps and it was shipped priority mail. I have gotten frags at the same time from someone else that was shipped priority and all the rest of them have opened. They look fine , just closed up tight, is there anything I can do?
 
Give them some time and im sure they will open up for you. I have gotten frags mailed and they were open in the bag, others have taken nearly a week to fully open. I think some are just more touchy than others.
 
glad i found this post. i bought some frags from my LFS on fri., and they haven't opened either. guess i will give them more time as well. if they still don't open, you'll be hearing from me again. ;) ;)
 
I got my Zoa's last sunday and they still haven't opened up. They look healthy, and a few of the polyps open up partially, so I'm not terribly worried yet (just real annoyed.)

Someone got a frag of Fire and Ice at our most recent reef club meeting that opened up in the bag while floating in the host's tank...I was a bit jealous.
 
i have some zoas about 30polyps and recenty for the past 3 days or so there was 1 polyp closed, then it was 3 then 4 now its about 6 or 7 all around the same area. Is there something eating my zoas? I seen this very small worm less than 1mm on time. Or what else can it be?

Sure sounds like something munching away at them, look for nudis, sundial snails and amphipods on the colony.
 
i got my first zoo colony from m y lfs and it opened up right when i got it home but then cosed up a fe days later for almost 3 weeks(i think i had them to close to the light initially) there open now and there georgeous ~patience :)~
 
some help there zoo's to open up by leaving the attinics only on... or putting them in a good flow area but not too much light.

my 2 tubs frags opened within 2-3 hours of getting them.
 
Well it finally started to open, no more worries

mine are still closed and i see one by one closing up. i see some worm kinda thing hiddiing in the rock. Just stiking his head out and he moves in when my sixline comes close:(
 
not meaning to hijack, but I have been having similar problems. I have always had a rule, kill something once, it could have been a fluke, kill somthing twice and you need to stop and figure out what you are doing wrong before trying again. Well, I bought a colony of zoas that never opened and about a week or so ago I found the rock that use to have the zoas on it was clean. So I got a second cononly and it too never opened and today I awoke to find that rock clean, so I started looking at my other frags and noticed an emerald crap picking at the zoas.

Now, when I first started this quest for a zoa filled tank, I thought they were sick due to water, which now tests out perfect, I have good flow from a Tunze Wavebox and good lighting, so now I am woundering if I have a muncher.

I have not seen any sundial snails and know I dont have any nudibranches, and as for the other 2, I am not sure if I have them or not due to the size of the critters.

My question is, do emeralds eat live zoas or only pick at dead/dieing ones?

Anything else I can look for that could be eating these guys or making them sick?
