Fragged my Elegance Coral

I'm glad your frag has gone so well. I hope other people who have this really interesting coral will see what you have done and decide to frag theirs as well. Maybe then we won't have to deal with corals with ECD. Glad to see you took the plunge and its been so successful.

That tiny frag & it's fast growth(without a mouth) may be a testament that feeding isn't as important as some may think. I know when I had an elegance years ago it grew to monstrous proportions & I never fed it.

I think that this experiment does indeed show that fragging could be a very viable commercial choice to propagate elegance corals for the hobby while saving the diminishing wild population.

I'm just a relative newbie and if I can do it, so can the experts.

There are people doing it now, like Zeppelin.

Latest update on the little guy frag. He continues to grow new tentacles along his perimeter.

No specific feeding, I'm not sure it even has a mouth yet. Only nutrients in the tank is a weekly dosing of phytoplankton.

It is looking great. :) Are you feeding it at all yet?

Cool. There are a few tentacles blocking part of the view and it almost looked like there may be a mouth hiding behind them. The mouth will come soon enough. It looks like it is doing very well.

Thank you very much for sharing. It's not often I get to read something new related to reefing, especially on RC, but this is definitely a worthwhile post. Definitely keep us posted as to growth and progress.

Latest update pictures, it's been almost three months now and frags are doing fine. Two other tiny frags broke off from the main frag, so now I have three tiny little frags and one larger frag.

Here is a group portrait of all four frags (the original little guy is the one on the right, the two new tiny frags about the size of dimes are on the left side).

Here is a closeup of the three tiny frags.

Sweet pics sandeep, Those are some happy looking elegance frags. Are they accepting food? if so what kinds of food have you tried? You might try to measure their growth rate by measuring their buoyant weight at regular intervals. Thanks for posting an update.

can I have dibs on one of the tiny frags. I really want that original little guy. Please let me know if you still have him.

PS I sent you a PM

Can we have an interesting, informative thread where people aren't just trying to acquire other people's corals?
