Frags vs. Mini Colonies

I love watching frags grow as I've got quite a few growing, though slower than the mini colonies I have picked up.

From what I'm noticing, the bigger colonies adapt, grow, and color up quicker where as the frags (fragged month or two in advance) are really taking their time.

Any one else having the same results?

They generally all grow faster as they get bigger. Only thing I can think of that you can get better results with smaller pieces is zoas. As in if you have a group of 50 and split it to 5 groups of 10, you'll get to 100 faster than if you just kept letting the original group of 50 multiply.

Yeah, it takes a while. The smaller you start, the longer it takes. Growth usually increases with size, same with color. I've had this frag of Jesus stag that's been in my tank for 5-6 months, and now its starting to show real growth, and the color is now back to the original. It never really faded much, but it lost the bright blue/teal growth tips. now with the lights off, they really look blue. On the other hand, I have a few "higher end" frags that started at about 1/2" and in the same time, have just based out a little. Also, every tank is different and the bigger the more stable. We have a local guy that has ridiculous growth from his SPS. I didn't believe it until I saw it personally. We got frags from the same source. Granted, his was much bigger to start, but his has grown infinitely more than mine in a shorter time.

Yes but I find the chance of stagnant growth, or death is higher in wild and maricultured corals.

My fastest growing acros generally are the aquarium cultured ones.

I have the Jesus Christ stag as well almost a year now. It's still small less then 4" but when I got it , it was about the size of a pencils eraser. It's only now that I see it growing and coloring up Nice. Can you share a picture and I will as well?

size does matter lol depends what you start off with as well

I have seen many people sell frags as mini colonies, and a frag of a frag as frag. It takes a long time for a cut off tip to grow out

This SC orange passion from a friend was shipped to me around April 14th this year and it was about 1/2 "tops with no base growth. It's is in the very best spot in my tank and hope I live too see this one grow up:bum:
