I want a dozen tickets for the car. This club has some really neat idea's, looks like they have a lot of money and are well organized, or at least they have a well stocked meeting place. Overhead projectors, latops, and a sound system Wow!

Lovin the tank, one day when I get rich I'm going to build a reef that Mom would be proud of, I'll keep scuba gear so you can get up close and personal. Better yet why not just visit some exotic far away place do the same thing and save a few bucks.

I'm for a swap we organize and put on, with an invite to anybody from the denver or any other clubs or individuals for that matter wanting to buy and sell.
Wanting to join forces with the other clubs I think would not be needed, we have plenty of members and if a few members helped out we would be more than capable of doing a large event.

Im with Chris. We can even do it at my house it is big enuff for us all to fitin I will even BBQ or smoke a brisket or 2 for the event and have Tim do his cake that i liked
 
Why not have a group event? It would be at least 2 times bigger, and with three clubs pooling rescouces we could invite some kind of speaker.

Caleb, we would have to join the RMRC with SCMAS as a southern chapter. You and everybody else would be paying yearly dues to be a member.
We would be bound to the rules they set.
Is that what everybody wants? I wouldn't stop it if that's the direction you all want to go, but for me I don't see why it would be needed at this time. I think we have a capable board right now and I got us a speaker from California this weekend (I know you weren't there) but we have the resources to pull off things like speakers. It is really not that hard to do and I don't think anybody in the other clubs has an advantage over us that we would need to pool together for.

That's my opinion, I am open to any and all suggestions though.

I dont want to haft to pay a yearly dues I like thing the way they are naw but I wouldn't stop it if that's the direction either. and i like the resources we have as a club with speakers and all. But thats just me I think it would be a loot of fun but pooling the 2or3 club's together I dont see why we need to do that at all we are big enuff as is
 
Yeah we are big enough and getting bigger everyday, to tell you the truth I think we have as many if not more member turnout at events than some of the other local clubs.
I like your idea Caleb, it sounds great at first, but I think we have so many new ideas and plans as a new board that getting involved with the other club so soon is more than I have time and patience for right now anyway.

I'm sure we will extend an invite to the other clubs to come down and participate, so there will be an opportunity to have more frags available. Chris and myself both have been up to Denver to participate in their frag swaps and Thurge just went to one up there recently.

If we put on the swap we wouldn't want to drive all the way to Denver to do it. Their club members can drive down here to participate. If they would like to be involved on a larger scale it would be subject to the terms and conditions of SCMAS.

However it happens I'm sure it will be a good one.
 
from the by laws;

II.2.a The Southern Colorado Marine Aquarist Society shall not be affiliated with any other organization or entity. This can only be changed by a 3/4 (three quarter) vote by the members and a 4-1 vote by the Board of directors.
 
If we would have to merge or something with RMRC then I completely agree with chris. Can't it just be something like having triple the amount of frags because 3 clubs are having a fragswap?

I think it could be more frags with others involved, I think it could be extended to everybody in Denver and Colorado Springs no matter which club or no club they are in for that matter.
3 times the amount though wouldn't happen I don't think.
There would be too many people that wouldn't make the drive to us or if we held it in Denver not many would want to drive up there either.

We will advertise on our new website and if the rest of the board agrees with me, I have a corporate sponsor already and could easily get more by the fall.
this would have to happen later in the year towards fall though, so I wouldn't expect it anytime really soon, if we want a legitimate event we need time to get a venue and organize the whole thing. Having it at someone's house won't work I don't think unless someone has a big detached garage or something.

Chris is correct on the matter of the other clubs. SCMAS has strived to have its own identity and do its own things. That being said we are very friendly with the other clubs and would be more than happy to have their members come down and join the swap. That being said, it would be a SCMAS event and our rules would govern. We have been invited to the other clubs swaps and some of us have made it to them, but the swap was ran by the hosting club and their rules applied. We can't satisfy everyone with how swaps are run, we can only try and do what we think is in the best interest of our club.

Many of these things have been brought up in the past, and that is why we now have bylaws and board members. We will soon be going forward with our own web site that the board members are working on now. Things are going well with this club, and I think we have some very passionate members making decisions.

These are all really great ideas. We could start with the website and then send an invite out to RMRC, see how a swap goes. Then in the fall if we get sponsorship we could see what that allows the club to do.

Chris has been doing a great job at getting key sponsors to come in and talk. I think for all the bigger SCMAS is that’s awesome. Sounds like we are going in allot of directions, but they all lead getting more involved which is good.

I don't think that we need to merge with another club. But it would be cool if we could get a big event together. If RMRC won't come down or we won't go up there then it doesn't matter anyway. I wouldn't mind paying dues if it betters the club and all agree and it gets us something is return speakers etc. If we get sponsors in the fall it might not matter either.

I’m in no hurry, and I am certainly satisfied no matter what. I would like to check out a Denver Frag swap sometime. Let me know if there is anything I can do for the next meeting Etc.

We should have some kinda focus but not going in to many directions at once. Seems like the current leadership has got some great ideas and focus.
