I really like the way this fish looks but he is a little to busy for our 55 gal. Any trades would be appreciated or free to a good home. He is about 4-5 in long, black and white in color. He looks like an eel. I just caught him and put him in ur refugium. Please come and pick him up today. (Somkey hill and E-470.).

He is reef safe, he does not bother any corals or my clam. He also gets along with my other 7 fish. He is shy and friendly. The only problem is is that he likes to move gravel around.

General Info:
This fish is neither a goby or a blenny, but rather in a family all its own! Resembling a coral catfish or eel as a juvenile, it ranges in color, usually white with either brown or black markings. As it matures, the markings take on the namesake "convict" stripes. This species is very hardy, and they love to tunnel in substrate, so be sure that your rockwork is secured! They will eat just about any kind of food, from frozen to flake, even small fish if they will fit in their mouths. They get along with just about any tankmate. They are a social fish and do best in groups of 3 or more, though that requires a larger tank! They are a scaleless species, so be careful of medications.

Now that I look at him closer , he more like 5 1/2 to 6 in long. He has been very well fed and is healthy. Very cool looking fish and REEF SAFE!!! :)

Agree, reef safe - I have had one for several years and have had no trouble. He is my favorite fish and is about 9-10" long now. Very cool to watch him swimming. They do like to move the gravel around though - it took us a while to reach an "agreement" about where he's allowed to dig. :) I just kept filling in the holes he made in places I didn't want them, and now he's content to keep his burrow in the back corner of the tank. Best to make sure your rockwork is sitting on the tank bottom, so it doesn't topple if sand gets scooped from underneath.

I'd take him, but my 75 has triggers... I wouldn't want to take the chance that he'd get picked on.

If he's too big for your 55, he's probably to big for my 55 too...:(

its not that he's too big...its just that we have a lot of live rock stacked and am afraid that it will fall over and crack the glass. Just want to be safe than sorry. It was fine when he was little but now that he has grown he seems to want a bigger home under the rocks.
Larry...I saw yours and that was the reason I wanted to get one. They are the coolest looking fish and I love to watch it swim. I guess my rocks arent as stable as they probablly should be.

I'll take him then. The 55 is acrylic, and my aquascaping skills are lacking, so the rockwork is really basic, and very sturdy. I'm off at 2:30, and can be there before 3pm today, if he's not gone by then. I'm off Smokey and Buckley.

P.S. I dont really have anything for trade.

K thats fine...I just want him to have a good home. I really do like him and my daughter is sad he is going. Call me to let me know when you are close and you can have him.

Thank you Melissa! He looks like a great new addition. I can tell we're going to enjoy him.

Thanks for the few extras too!
