just for your info if it came from florida waters it is probably a N. Wennerae just though you might want to know

why not just keep it?

he has eaten over 100 snails and hermit crabs, that's why.

you just need a 5-10 gallon and they can be fed on frozen foods. in fact, you only need to feed hard foods like once a month. and they only need a small piece of LR to burrow in, or a small PVC pipe. They are also very active and you could get quite a bit of enjoyment for about 10$ for the tank, 8$ for live rock, and 20$ for a bag of frozen shrimp that could last you a year.

if they happen to be those snail shells laying around that container its not the mantis thats killing them, those snails are WAY too large for that little guy and if he can kill snails that big, i doubt he would still be in that container and he would be back in your tank

hey, this is my first post in a long time, but ive been here reading, and anyway,I was just at the lfs and they gave me a free mantis, ive been reading about them, and looking into getting one.

He looks exactly like that one,im keeping mine in my 7 gallon refugium that is connected to my 55 gallon reef. I was here looking fro an i.d. Ill do more research on N. Wennerae .

He is the spear type; live aquaria sells them.

A P. ciliata? hah. I doubt that. No offensew, but aren't likely to just hitch They would jump rock way before that. I'm not saying it is impossible, just highly unlikely.....

i agree with pea brain on it's unlikeliness of being a spearer. +1 on it probably being N. wennerae, but i can't be sure without a better pic. I have seen wennies of that green but you never know with a mantis...
