freshwater dip method

How long can you leave them in for? I know adjust the ro water alk and temp, I just am wondering what the longest I can leave them in the freshwater dip for. I have the same parasite on a frogspawn that is talked about in detail in this thread: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1776624&highlight=frogspawn+parasite+interceptor

It seems interceptor is the preferred method but I cant find any googleing it. Post# 23 in that thread the guy says freshwater dip worked for him. I tried a Coral RX dip already with no difference observed.

As far as info on fresh water dips I have no information. But interceptor has been unavailable since February. (I work in a vet clinic and that is our heartworm prevention of choice.) There was a recall with excedrin, also made by Novartis, so the FDA had to shut down all production for the whole company to do QC inspections. My clinic's Rep for the company tells us the middle of next year for it being back but based on how much they have pushed back the re release already my guess is it will be later. I don't know if ivermectin would work for them or not, maybe someone else could chime in. Best of luck, nothing is worse than not being able to fix something that you know how to.

No problem.
As far as milbemycin oxime is concerned there are other products that contain it. Both Sentinel and Trifexis are milbemycin based. However, Sentinel contains lufenuron and Trifexis contains spinosad and I do not know if there are any side effects of these drugs in any fish or corals. AGAIN- I am not telling you to use these products in your aquariums as a replacement for Interceptor, I am just sharing the information I do know.

well I never found an answer to my OP. I attempted a dip on the infected frogspawn, and I gave it about 5 1/2 minutes. It didn't like it much. Very slimy now. Hopefully it comes back.

Google Bayer Advanced Insecticide as a coral dip. It works on most "bug"-type pests, including red bugs, and many others with little to no irritation to the coral.

Considering there's a potential link between freshwater and the ciliates that are associated with brown jelly disease, I avoid freshwater dips.

The only coral u can freshwater dip are zoas. Other than that u can't freshwater dip any corals especially for 5 and a half min. Consider that frogspawn a goner.

Just to update, it was very slimy the first night. Next day beginning to open back up. Saw some of the parasites but none were moving and I think they came off in the slime show. I dont think its a goner but I guess we'll see.

My LFS actually suggested freshwater dip for other corals.

The only coral I know that its okay to FW dip is zoa's.

If its a pest problem I would agree with the Bayer. Thats what I've used ever since I had a stent with redbugs. I use 5ml for every half gal of tank water.

Imicloprid (active ingredient of Bayer) is best for the "bug"-type pests (like red/white/gray/black bugs), but it also works pretty well on AEFW, red planaria, etc.

The fresh dipped frogspawn is still alive. Still opening but not fully, but no real changes either direction. I have it getting about half the light it was pre dip just in case, as it lost some color when the slime came off.

Just an update the frogspawn that was fresh dipped is opening more each day. Color is still washed but at this point I am confident it will make a full recovery. Today it was more open than it ever was while it was infested with the white bugs. I have not seen any of the white bugs since the dip. *NOTE* In no way am I saying the fresh dip is a good idea or cure. Simply sharing the lucky results of my uneducated treatment.

In fact I tried the Bayer dip on my other frogspawn that also had some of the white bugs, but was no where near as infested as the other. The bayer dip worked perfectly at the rate of 4 ml to 2 cups of tank water. No stress at all on that coral and it was fully opened the same day with no ill effects. White bugs gone on that coral too.
