Fridays meeting

I believe there is going to be a roundtable discussion at this Fridays meeting. I am going to be late, but if somebody would bring up C-Sea having its own forum not affiliated with reef central I would appreciate it. While I enjoy the the volumes of information here at reef central, I dont like having to tip-toe around our discussions with the fear of being banned, bullied, or flat out disrespected.

Starting a new thread after two previous ones were closed will result in a suspension. There is no secret to that. If you consider that being "bullied" or "disrespected", so be it.

It is fascinating to me that the situation that created this turmoil was amicably and maturely resolved with the thread starter, yet those who did not participate in the discussion are so quick to rush to judgment. The thread starter was going to be asked to restart his thread concentrating on his experience raising the fry, but unfortunately he was not given the opportunity to.

We value all the local club forums on Reef Central. It is an important part of what makes Reef Central the wealth of knowledge it has become. The difficulty in moderating these forums, however, is due to members of the local club forums taking personal offense to actions they feel are harmful to their friends and neighbors. We respect that club members look out for each other, but I would submit to you that in this particular case, there was no offense intended or warranted. If any was taken, I apologize. I have spoken to several of you by private message, and I appreciate your feedback.

Brian

Sorry Brian, but I didnt make any reference towards any other closed threads, certainly not two, so I am not sure what grounds for suspension there would be. I was only asking if a fellow club member, in my absence, would bring up establishing a forum that is moderated by a C-Sea officer. Many other clubs have them, I believe even our southern neighbors from CORA utilize their own forum.

I understand that reef central has certain policies that are in place and regardless of all of the "in&outs" I'm sure there are good reason for those policies.

I dont know what the costs for establishing a C-Sea forum would be and for all I know it may be something that isnt worth the time or money.

I`m pretty sure that this has been brought up at several meetings. The concensus has always been that it`s not going to happen.

May I ask why the consensus has always been "not going to happen"?

There are lots of "FREE" forum hosts out there that would actually fulfill the needs of something like this, I am pretty sure....

There would be MANY +'s to having a separate forum.

I honestly think that's a wonderful idea.

we had one, no one used it really. The club actually bought the software to run it as well. It failed. Great idea but getting people to read 2 forums didn't work back then. That is why the idea gets shot down.

One other point was, when someone has to be banned or censored, who`s going to do it? Things could get ugly at the meetings.

I think there is enough feelings that get hurt the way it is. Imagine all the ultra sensative people coming face to face.

Absolutely right! It works sometimes in other places but not here. My theory is that if you have someone kicked off of one forum, they go to the other and instead of talking about the hobby, they talk about the other forum. Boring! And then only the "exiles" are left to talk to each other.

Actually there still is a forum (with three sub-forums) set up from years ago. I check it 3-4 times a week and the last time anyone posted was March 11 of this year. One thing (theoretically a good thing) about this forum is you never get banned or deleted per se, but if your posts are boringly OT or offensive, they get moved to a restricted area. Staff can view and respond, but the idea is the person still has a place to post, get some interaction, and they are not driving off the public. "If there was a public."

This is what makes us, us.(USA) Most everyone else think it, we say it. That is what the 1st admendment was written for. Also, treat others as you yourself would like to be treated. I find that to have less backlash. Remeber, this is a public fourm and we are adults. Lets not embarass ourselves, unless it is spelling. Keep on reefing!!!
