Friend or foe?

I was feeding my serpent star a krill and this guy comes out of the rock work. I'm pretty sure he's not a good guy so I pulled him out. He's a good three inches long.

So is he bad or good? Thanks!

He is a good guy in that if you feed extra food, he will eat it. If he is well fed, reproduction will happen and you will get more, and more. And more, if you keep giving them something to eat.

Hundreds swarm out of the rocks when we feed our 16 year old 180g tank at work. But the fish are well fed and the worms don't really eat anything they shouldn't but do get the occasional dead/dying snail.

bristleworms are good guys, but they gross me out. But they are good scavengers. Don't touch them though, those spines can poke you and break off. Ouchie!

I pulled a foot long one out of my 28 gallon, I dont know about you guys but I have hard time believing that is beneficial.. IMO as long as they stay small (under 3 in) they are good, but Id rather not have foot long worms crawling around in my nano tank
