hey guys could you post some pics of either your frog spawn or hammer corals. i have one or the other. it has two heads about the size of a quarter. i was told its a hammer but its looking more like a frogspawn the more it grows. thanks

I don't have either, but the frogspawn will have growth over the whole tentacle, the hammer has a clean tentacle and an anchor or T-shaped top on the tentacle.

If you could post a pic of yours that would be good too. There are also a couple of threads that have pictures of hammers or frogspawns that you could check out while you're waiting for replies :)

I got one quite some time ago that was sold to me as a hammer, but looking more closely recently I don't think it's hammer, torch, or frogspawn. I'm hoping to post pics later for a positive ID on mine.

thanks, yea i was looking through the pics on the home page, but the all look so different. im leaning more towards frogspawn, but it doesnt really look like the other one. i'll try to post a pics tomorrow but who knows how good my camera on my phone will do. thanks again.

:( .....lol... i cant tell. it looks kinda like the branching hammer but its tips are more round and the tips are green with a brownish pinkish tentacle.

If the terminal tips are elongate, shaped like a hammer or anchor, it is a hammer, if the tips are round, it is a frogspawn. The hammer usually does not have more than 1 node on each fleshy tube, spawns have many nodes on each tube. There is a variety that has multiple nodes on each tube, and a hammer shapped terminal tip. I usually call this a hammerspawn:)

Here is my hammerpsawn

ok thanks now im pretty sure its a frogspawn. see in the picture some of yours are round and otherss are anchor shaped, i think that kinda stuff was throwing me off. thanks eveyone.

I have one that I think is E. cristata, and it's thrown me for a while. I've spent the last week going through pics and articles to find out what it could be.
Mine has tips that are similar to frogspawn, but there aren't any nodes on the tubes . I'm working on posting a pic in a different thread to see if I can get a positive ID.

Wish me luck!

Sorry for the double post, didn't realize it 'till this morning, and now there's nothing I can do about it :(

There are definitely morphs of these. In my local club they call mine an Agu Thingy. I have no idea why or how it got named this but it's definitely not either a hammer or frog, but both in a way.

Euphyllias can be smack up against each other, and I have a frog and a hammer in that situation. Occasionally the hammer tentacles nearest the frog will bifurcate. I don't know if there is some exchange of chemicals which causes this or whether it's temporary injury, but it goes and it comes.
