Frogskin Acro problems

Hi Reefcentral. One week ago I bought a ORA frogskin acro and it was beautiful. Now today it looks like the tips are getting discolored. Will this guy bounce back to normal? Great polyp extension but loosing color. This is my first SPS frag. My LPS, GSP, etc has been thriving the two years I have had my tank. I just need some advice/pointers on what to look for and what is happening to my new acro. Thanks!

When I first got it.

And this is it now a week later.

Parameters? Lighting? Flow in your tank? These could all be factors in your problem. Whats your husbandry schedule? Your water could have high nutrient levels which isn't good for many sps. That would explain good lps and soft coral growth.

Looks like normal frogskin growth to me. The tips on my frokskin turn purple when it is growing
Same to me.. Looks like it's just growing..

Try to take weekly photos. I find it easier(lol, when I remember) since I am in the tank almost every day..

Lol.. So do you see growth in your pics? Lol, as soon as she begins seeing how nuts you are about the growth and all you do to keep them up, it won't seen so crazy or foreign to her.. Trust me..

The tips are def not purple, I doubt it is growing. Is it a correct assumption to say if the tips are white it is getting to much light and if they are brown there is too much phosphates/nutrients? I have a photon 24 and am running it 30%

salinity 1.026
calcium 420
Alk 8.5

I need to post a better picture of it with the brown tips. I will turn down my blues for the photo.

That's a pretty vast generalization. I'd say no it's not a correct assumption.

The color of the tip can often be white on acros that are growing. I have about 48 that fit that description right now. Several of them are deepwater, smooth skin acros, or frogskin as you're calling it. The color will be relative to coral. Brown can change quickly.

That's a pretty hardy SPS. Not a terribly fast grower and it will take it a couple of weeks to acclimate. Relax and enjoy it.

looks perfectly fine to me, acros will change color depending on your lights and every other parameter in your tank. very rarely will they stay the same color you receive them as

The coral is actually trending towards it's lineage coloration, I think this one is doing just fine, based on the "now" pic, great job!
