frogspawn bad for eager clowns!

I bought a frogspawn for my CB onyx to host in, in my SPS tank. He took to it right away. I later paired him with a pretty WC onyx that would hover above the frogspawn but never in.

A few weeks ago she started playing in it, diving in and sleeping in it. I noticed last week she had some red marks on her face and back. I thought well she must be getting use to the frogspawns sting. Wendsday I noticed she looked like she had brook all over her & her head had huge red spots, her mouth stayed WIDE open.

I freaked out... I have had her a few months now and was in shock she had brook now... I pulled the frogspawn out friday and by sunday she was all cleared up, mouth closed and the red spots on her face are almost gone.

She's never lost her appitite but boy she looked on deaths door.

BEWARE for those that have a frogspawn as a host... they can be bad news!

Has anyone else experienced this? A frogspawn or torch was going to be my newbie alternative to an anemone until I get more into the swing of things.

I have a gold-stripe maroon clown about 1.5-2" that has sometimes hung out in our frogspawn and didn't show any signs of distress afterwards. He has killed a plate coral before, and when he hosted a hammer coral it stayed in a lot and then he left it. He is funny, he just goes around the tank from coral to coral and stays in each one for short periods and then moves. I don't know if that is normal or not.

I really have no clue why she is getting hurt by it... my little male is fine in it, has been for several months.

I think she's just not giving herself time to adjust to the different sting & its causing damage... thats my guess anyway.

It's sad too... when I took it out both of them just hover in the spot where it was waiting for it to return.

my frogspawn has been hosting my onyx for over a year now and they are quite healthy.I think your female had some issues and that it was perhaps coincidental that she was hosting your coral at the time.

I've had her since july, she has been healthy as a horse... she hosts & the next day she looks bad & continues to looks worse every day after till I took the frogspawn out, the very next morning she looks 100 times better. Her red face is completly gone now too.

I'd like to believe it was something else as well... but considering the timeframe of everything I just dont see how its possible. I have changed nothing in my tank in that time... & did nothing new for her.

I might throw the frogspawn back in next week just to be 100% sure thats what it is... they sure do miss it :(

very interesting, I have a similar situation I added a torch and the two clows are hosting it one looks kind of bad, red spots and some look like blisters but the other clown is fine really weird. They used to host on my goni before with no problems. Do they get hurt by it? I do have a frogspawn bu they don't go there.

One of my baby onyx hosts in my frogspawn and is fine. She chases the other clown away when he tries to host in it. This has been going on for weeks. Both are fine. I'm worried about the frogspawn!
