From Disbelief to realization...

The wealth of information on here amazes me, not sure how people did this without the help of experienced hobbiests

CAught myself teaching some people about the cycle in the LFS the other day and I was like hrm I was in your exact spot last year

One thought I had when I read at the beginning of your thread, the need for a QT tank --(and if you feel the 75g doesn't accommodate all the fish comfortably) -- a food-grade plastic container could work -- but my question for the experts, would it absorb the cupramine?

No. I mix my saltwater in 60g food grade drums, and have one designated for qt/cupramine. My copper levels always stay stable in the drum.

A common alternative to glass qt tanks are rubbermaid stock tanks (not the knockoffs) with sponge filters. Used tanks on Craigslist are usually cheaper though.

55g Qt tank up and running salt mixed got a power head 2 air stones and a HOB filter

At the moment have 3 heaters trying to heat the water quick

If you do go with the copper/cupramine route make sure you have a good sized batch of water pre mixed and ready to go. The ammonia, when it does spike, goes up fast.
Also use absolutely NOTHING from your DT!! Any filter socks or pads will add bacteria to your QT tank which will be killed off from the cop/cup and create ammonia. It has no benefit at all. Keep lots of air in the water with either stones or I went and grabbed one of those cheap airstone driven freshwater surface skimmers ($20) they do a good job for putting O2 in the water...

p.s.

I'm still really hoping your headaches weren't caused from my yellow tang man!!

Ok thanks for the advice thats like the only thing I'm still not fully understanding is the cycle of the tank cause basically it doesn't cycle right? and thats what i didn't get some people adding filter pads from there sump ... makes sense now

And ps don't matter man if i got it from you or not my fault for not having a QT process ready and its not like any of it was on purpose lol

Even tho this hobby has its headaches i don't think id have it any other way

Least ya have a qt system in place now...try and keep it running at all times. just in case, and for future additions.

O yea I'm going to qt all new fish from now on for sure

Well update, so far we have only caught 2 fish the naso tang and a little chromis

So today I'll be tanking all the rocks with coral out and putting them into a 30 gallon tank with some water , taking some other rocks out and draining some water out and trying again...

I guess this ich came with a free chance to re aquascape... That's nice lol

Cupramine will not kill ALL bacteria.

The naso tang and the chromis don't look to impressed in the Qt tank I'm sure they are just getting used to it, naso tang eating some nori i put in there so thats good

Rest of the fish catching will happen when my wife gets off work :)

Update

All fish caught after taking 80% rocks out but there all in the qt so the first hard part is over

... Wow are 6line wrasses hard to catch ...

Well fish been in Qt for 2 days now all comfy, i added a chunk of LR and a ball on cheato for the mandarin I'm just worried about her the most she does eat frozen but this should help a bit at least..

Bought a refractomoter and now time to start dropping the salinity down over the new 2-3 days. Got lots of extra RO and Salt mixed up for potential problems, Im ready to get this party started

Does the light cycle matter in QT ? is a standard 12 hours good? Would doing 8 or 10 be better?

On a side note almost done re-aquascaping the DT and the corals have never looked better lol

Doesn't really matter. I tend to only light my QT for 8 hrs max (let the new fish rest). Or sometimes not at all (just ambient). But the latter may be because I use CP often in QT, so I'm just "conditioned" not to run any lights.

Ok yea I'll probably cut it down to 8-10 let the fish rest

Do you see any problems with me adding cultured pods (if I can find them) throughout the hypo for the mandrin

As long as they aren't coming from your DT (or another infected tank), that is fine.

Have you ever tried feeding nutramar ova to your mandy? It's frozen prawn roe; I haven't seen too many mandys turn it down.

No I haven't ill have to check it out, maybe I'm just over reacting I'm sure if I keep target feeding her during the treatment she should get enough frozen as long and she keeps eating it (I feed a mix of brine/mysis/Pacifica plankton)
