FS : 3' X 3' prop tank

We have a 36" X 36" X 10" acrylic prop tank. It includes a 1' tall "acrylic guard rail" to keep critters from jumping out (or at least hopefully to limit their success with such attempts). I also will include the bulkheads and fitting for the drain and spary bar return. The bulkheads are all sched 80.

Here is the tank without the guardrail on it :

A shot of the spray bar. It is capped and slip fit into the larger 90 to prevent it from sagging over the distance

You can kind of see what I mean by "gurad rail" in this picture (the prop is just off to the right of the picutre). The acrylic "guard" goes all the way around the tank.

The guradrail is removable in sections. I had originally built it because we were keeping some wrasses in our prop tank that were known to be jumpers, but I didn't want to overly restrict our access to the tank now did I want to limit the light getting to it by installing a cover. We never had a fish jump the whole time the guard was in place, so I guess you could call that a success :)

Yes please Wayland buy this! when I saw this it took ever ounce of my being not to scream MEEEEEEEE. I need another tank like I need another hole in the head... but then again another hole in my head might be useful depending upon it's function... much like that tank :D

Would be an awesome tank with a single luminarc and a 400w MH.

So tempting...

:)

We actually hung a 250W 10K XM over it in an LA III mini on a PFO HQI ballast... We kept clams in the back right corner.. 3 croceas, 1 maxima and 2 squamosas. More than enough light to the edges :)

Hehehe.. will do rhaey.. there are a couple of people in front of you :). I am waiting on a response from the 1st person in line. If it falls through I will let the next person in line know. Thank you to everyone that PMed us :)

Nice :)

Lot's of PAR with the 10k. How high up did you have the light?

I've been seeing 20k 400w setups over tank areas of that size. They were nice because there was lots of room under the lights to work in the tank, and the 20k gave the corals super intense colors.

Norm,

We had it about 27" from the bottom of the reflector the top of the tank.. so yea, lots of room to move around and work under it. Depending on the ballast for the 400W 20K (and the bulb), I can see that working :). With this tank it was doubly easy because of the shallow, prop style depth. :)

rhaey,

It sounds like the same person, yes.

I never really went into detail, but the wrasses that we built the gurad rail for were to help with pest control in our prop tank. We also had/have a "sand box" that I will be including when Wayland picks it up from us this week. It is a 16" X 16" x 4" acrylic box (or was it 18" square ? I wouldhave to measure it to be sure) that we kept about 2" of sand in for the wrasses to sleep in at night. We also kept the clams in there to help keep them from attaching to the bottom of the tank itself :). We kept it in the far right hand corner, which was where the return bulkhead was (and the spraybar), so there was a bit of a shadow from the spraybar and bulkhead all along the back side of the box.. this was a great spot to keep softies and LPS.. due to the filtered light and the sand bottom.

We also clipped an auto-feeder onto the guardrail to help keep the fish fed :). (but we are using that auto-feeder on another tank, so it will not be included).. but the option is there :)

tentative to meet up with him tomorrow. We have narrowed it down to a general time and area, but neither the specific time nor place has been established.
